MEP Gianluca Buonanno put on a mask with German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s face printed on it during Jean-Claude Junker’s ‘State Of The Union’ speach in Strasbourg today. (9 September)

Buonnanno, a member of Italy’s right-wing Northern League party, is thought to have carried out the stunt as an ‘anti-migrant’ protest after he also posted pictures to Twitter on September 7, which had a man wearing a Merkel mask and a t-shirt with the slogan: “Merkel: Syrian refugees for us. African migrants for Italy.”
