US doesn’t want to destroy Daesh, it wants to manage it says Eric Draitser
The United States and its allies have created the war in Syria and have destabilized it since 2011 by arming, financing and providing political cover for terrorist networks in the Middle East, a geopolitical analyst in New York says. Washington’s claim that it is fighting the Takfiri terrorist group in Syria and Iraq is a “complete lie or at the very least a distortion of what the US really wants to do,” said Eric Draitser, the founder of StopImperialism.com using another acronym for the ISIL terrorist group.
“It doesn’t want to destroy ISIS (ISIL), it wants to manage ISIS, it wants to manage ISIS’ development, it wants to direct it in certain areas, it wants to use it to implement regime change, to destabilize, to fracture and otherwise destroy the Syrian state as well as the Iraqi state,” Draitser told Press TV on Thursday.
“It wants to use terrorism in the form of ISIS, just as it has used terrorism for decades, to execute its political and geopolitical agenda,” he added. “So when they say they want to destroy ISIS, they are lying, but when Russia says that it wants to destroy ISIS I think everybody recognizes that they are definitely serious about it because Russia has taken the threat of international terrorism quite seriously,” he observed.
Draitser described US Secretary of State John Kerry “supremely hypocritical” for warning Russia about its military buildup in Syria when in fact Washington has fueled the crisis in that country for years. Kerry issued the warning in a phone call to Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Wednesday, according to the US State Department.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Wednesday that there are “Russian military experts in Syria who are instructing (the Syrians) on the use of the military systems being delivered” to the Syrian government. Russia “has long been supplying arms and military equipment to Syria in accordance with bilateral contracts,” Zakharova said.

Al-Qaeda declared war against the Islamic State on Wednesday, creating a clear divide which experts say the United States may be able to exploit in its campaign against both terror groups.
In a new audio message, the leader of al-Qaeda, Ayman al-Zawahiri, accused ISIL leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi of “sedition,” ABC News reported. Al-Zawahiri also refuted al-Baghdadi’s claims that he is the leader of all Muslims and militant jihad as “caliph” of the Islamic State.
Former National Counterterrorism Center Director Matthew Olsen told ABC News:
“It’s pretty interesting. Zawahiri until now has not been willing to openly condemn Baghdadi and ISIS. It highlights how deep the division is between al Qaeda leadership and ISIS. It suggests that the differences are irreconcilable.”
According to Olson, US counter-terrorism operatives could use misinformation to further pit the two groups against each other and encourage each group to wage further violence against the other.
“Fighting each other makes our job easier,” a counter-terrorism official in Afghanistan told ABC News.
In the tape, al-Zawahiri, who is in hiding with a $25 million US bounty on his head, complained that Baghdadi had ignored Muslims suffering in Gaza and in Pakistan.
“We preferred to respond with as little as possible, out of our concern to extinguish the fire of sedition,” Zawahiri explained, “but Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi and his brothers did not leave us a choice, for they have demanded that all the mujahideen reject their confirmed pledges of allegiance, and to pledge allegiance to them for what they claim of a caliphate.”
“Everyone was surprised” by Baghdadi’s declaration anointing himself the fourth caliph in Islamic history, Zawahiri remarked, saying al-Baghdadi had done this “without consulting the Muslims,” ABC News reported.
The message, however, appears to be recorded sometime last spring, analysts say, as al-Zawahiri again pledges loyalty to Taliban leader Mullah Omar, who recently was confirmed dead by the Taliban.
Former CIA director Michael Hayden said the intelligence community thought bin Laden’s death could create a rift in al-Qaeda – similar to the divide forming between ISIL and al-Qaeda, which the US could use to its advantage, ABC News reported.
Nicholas Palarino, a former congressional counter-terrorism adviser, said al-Zawahiri’s declaration weakens both al-Qaeda and ISIL, and may offer Arab governments a chance to further divide the terror groups.
“Moderate Muslims need to exploit this rift. The leaders of Jordan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Egypt can explain the differences between these two groups to the world’s Muslims,” Palarino told ABC News.

Kurds gain ground against Islamic State in northern Iraq
Kurdish forces backed by air strikes from a U.S-led coalition drove Islamic State militants out of nine villages in northern Iraq on Friday, Kurdish authorities said.
The assault began at dawn on two fronts in the northern province of Kirkuk, and by early afternoon, peshmerga forces had taken an area of over 150 square km (60 square miles), the security council of the autonomous Kurdistan region said in a statement.
At least 40 insurgents were killed in the offensive in the Daquq area, some 175 km (110 miles) north of the Iraqi capital Baghdad, the security council said. Of around 1,500 peshmerga who took part, four lost their lives, according to Kurdish fighters who took part in the battle.
Most of the front line between peshmerga and Islamic State has not moved in months.
The Kurds already control much of the territory they claim as their own, and have little incentive to push further into predominantly Arab towns and villages, except where they pose a direct threat to their region.
The Security Council said Friday’s operation would “further weaken ISIL’s ability to threaten the Kurdistan region”, and said the peshmerga had taken control of the strategic Dusera heights and a stretch of the main road from Kirkuk to Baghdad.
Coalition warplanes targeted dozens of Islamic State positions, providing close air support to the peshmerga and destroying a suicide car bomb, the security council said.

Military sources said that fierce clashes broke out between Kurdish forces of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) and militants of the ISIL in the countryside of Tel Abyad town in the Northeastern Syrian province of Raqqa.
“Subsequent to an offensive by the ISIL terrorists on villages near Tel Abyad town, fierce clashes took place in the area between the radical group and YPG forces,” a spokesman for the Kurdish YPG forces told ARA News.
Nuraddin Gaban said that the ISIL militants launched an attack on areas stretching from Ain Issa to Tel Abyad in Northern Raqqa, “which led to clashes that continued until Friday evening”.
The source added that more than five ISIL militants were killed before the group’s withdrawal towards its main headquarters in Raqqa city.
“We have lost two of our bravest fighters in the clashes. But we were finally able to repel the terrorists’ attack,” the YPG spokesman said.
Gaban added that the YPG has seized weapons and ammunition that was left behind by the ISIL militants before retreating from the clashes’ locations.
In the meantime, the YPG General Command issued a statement saying that the ISIL group infiltrated into the village of Ser Giran near Tel Abyad on Thursday evening, adding that the group withdrew after being exposed to heavy artillery shelling by the Kurdish forces.

The top Air Defence commander of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) terrorist group, known as Abu-Abdollah, was killed in an attack by the Iraqi popular forces on the positions of Takfiri militants in the city of Fallujah in the province of Anbar on Saturday.
According to a statement issued by Iraq’s military, the popular forces managed to claim the life of the terrorist group’s top commander along with other militants during a major offensive in the village of Al-Motairi in the militant-held city of Fallujah in Anbar province.
Abu-Abdollah, one of the most notorious ringleaders of the ISIL terrorist group, was in charge of air defense in militant-held regions of al-Sajar, al-Saqlawiyah and al-Karma in Iraq.
According to local sources, Iraqi army troops have destroyed a vital supply tunnel of the ISIL Takfiri militants in the Southern flank of Fallujah in recent days.
“The Iraqi ground force, in coordination with the country’s air force, targeted and destroyed a supplying tunnel of the ISIL starting from the industrial area South of Fallujah and ending in the outskirts of al-Hayakel area,” the sources said.
Iran and Russia: Clear Conscience Never Fears Midnight Knocking
There is a reason why Iran and Russia are helping Syria in its counter-terrorism effort: They are more concerned about what their conscience whispers than about what the United States and its NATO-Arab allies shout.
Allowing a sovereign nation to fall apart is wrong. Lining up behind a blockade of assistance to the Syrian government – even if that would mean an ISIL/al-Qaeda victory – is wrong. It will have immeasurable consequences.
President Obama is dead wrong to assume that the strategy of backing the Syrian government against ISIL is “doomed to failure.” Tehran and Moscow are not doing this without filtering through the conscience. It is so clear that it is impossible to mistake it.
President Obama is free to reject Russia’s calls for increased military cooperation against ISIL, insisting America’s tactics in the war would not change. Iran and Russia will continue to provide military aid to Syria during their mutual war against US-backed proxies and affiliates. Calling for everyone to unite against ISIL does sit with international law. It is being averse to this idea and demanding “unconditional regime change in Damascus” that is immoral and unlawful.
Absent from Washington’s tragic misperception and calculation is this: By helping the Syrian government, Iran and Russia are also saving Europe from its worst refugee nightmare since the Second World War. What’s more, many European governments are now publicly warming to the idea. That explains why the conscientious campaign to save Syria will not fail. This is about cooperation, kindness, and humanity towards one another, and not one act of violence or competition. Humanity can’t fail.
Iran and Russia are making better decisions because they are predisposed to peace, with no cynical and self-serving reasons. Their default position is that of conscientious objector to war, violence and extremism. And in the case of Syria, they have already decided. Beyond words, there has been action.
Under international law, Official Washington and allies have no right to block any military supply pipeline to Syria’s government. Their inexplicable behavior risks collapsing the government and creating a vacuum filled by the bloodthirsty groups of ISIL and al-Qaeda.
Equally, their air war on population centers risks opening the floodgates, sending millions of desperate people pouring out of Syria and creating a political as well as humanitarian crisis in Europe and beyond. The human and financial costs of this nightmare scenario are beyond comprehension.
In the fantasyland that is Official Washington’s perception of the region, the warmongers have learned nothing from their past support for “regime change” strategies. Iraq, Libya and Afghanistan have all descended into anarchy with terrorists now controlling large swaths of territory and engaging in widespread atrocities. The real-life experience is that the collapse of the Syrian government will likewise make matters worse, with even more extreme forces filling the void…
Conscience is the inner voice. It never fears midnight knocking. Admittedly, this is not where President Obama and his cohorts sleep. They have sacrificed their conscience to blind ambition, burning a picture to obtain the ashes.
