McConnell Plans More Failure Theater on Iran

(Before It's News)

mystery science

Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) 58% thinks you are stupid. His staff thinks you are stupid. In fact, his regard for your intelligence is such that he’s convinced you would drown like a young turkey if caught outside in a downpour. That is the only explanation for what he’s up to.

After collaborating with Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN) 46% to turn the treaty-making process on its head and getting his ass handed to him by Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) 14%, he’s now trying to humiliate himself again. Only he thinks you don’t get it.

Via a Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) 58% press release:

‘I will file on an amendment that would prevent the President from lifting sanctions until Iran meets two simple benchmarks: It must formally recognize Israel’s right to exist, and it must release the American citizens being held in Iranian custody.’

This statement is as deeply unserious as Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) 58% himself. This amendment he refers to will be attached to the faux-bill disapproving the Iran nuclear surrender. If you were not in a coma back in April, then you know that Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) 92% filed an amendment requiring that Iran recognize Israel and the Senate leadership, that would include Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) 58%, refused to allow it to be brought up for a vote. Sen. Roy Blunt (R-MO) 63% filed an amendment requiring the release of US prisoners. Like Senator Rubio’s amendment, it was canned.

We are supposed to believe that somehow this will scare Democrats into not filibustering the bill. I really don’t know what you do to help someone who thinks this will work today when it didn’t work in April other than give them a five-pound bag of Thorazine and keep them away from sharp objects.

I jest. Of course, McConnell knows this won’t work. He doesn’t even care. The important thing for McConnell is to carry on with the fine tradition of Failure Theater. He knows the nation is very hostile to this agreement, he also knows that these amendments will fail. But what is important to McConnell is a) acquiescing to whatever Obama wants and b) giving the plausible illusion of fighting Obama.
