Muslim and homosexual bakers decline to make cakes. No one cares.
One of the things that Muslim and homosexual rights activists have in common is that while they use the cry of “equal rights” what they are really campaigning for is a position of privilege where they have rights that are available to no one else.
In the aftermath of Ben Carson’s comments on his view (and mine) that Islam is incompatible with the presidency, Jonathan Last commented on the bizarre image of liberals, who are in favor of most any kind of deviancy you can come up with, rushing to the defense of a religion that cheerfully kills homosexuals wherever they are found. Now Mark Hemingway, at The Weekly Standard, takes a more in depth look at the phenomenon.
BuzzFeed has a nice story up todayabout a Muslim-American woman embracing her heritage and celebrating Eid. But BuzzFeed’s story contains this interesting anecdote about tracking down a halal butcher:
This year, things are different. I found a full-time job, a way to stay in New York, and more friends. This year, I looked forward to Eid like I did when I was a child. I didn’t slaughter a goat in my nonexistent back yard, but I made my parents send me photos of the goat. And I did find a halal butcher (Yelp to the rescue) and called him.
“I need two legs of lamb.”
“Sorry miss, we don’t serve meat to people we don’t know,” he said.
Was this guy for real?
“I need them for Eid. My name is Zainab.”
I leveraged my Muslim capital. He paused.
“When do you need it?”
There. See that? Could a Christian butcher get by doing this for say an Christmas goose or Easter lamb? Highly doubtful. In fact, if we take the case of Mozilla’s Brendan Eich and the saga of Chick-Fil-A in Denver it is becoming difficult to even hold personal opinions if they are not supportive of homosexuality.
Earlier in the year, comedian Steve Crowder tried to get Muslim bakers in Dearborn to bake a cake for a homosexual wedding. Many refused.
Homosexual rights groups have the video but have yet to act on it.
Relatedly, bakeries run by homosexuals routinely refuse to serve customers desiring cakes with a traditional marriage message and nothing is done.
I don’t have a problem with any business refusing service to anyone for any reason. The problem with Jim Crow era was that the state mandated some businesses not serve black customers. Absent the coercive force of law, money talks and bullsh** walks. As my father would say, I don’t care if you are black or white so long as your money is green. What I do care about is that we are all playing by the same rules. Right now it is abundantly clear that there are favored minorities in our society who arrogate to themselves rights and privileges denied anyone else. Oddly enough, the two biggest offenders, homosexuals and Muslims, have nothing else in common.
