The Non-Essential Planned Parenthood
On Friday, the House Republicans voted to defund Planned Parenthood. As we know, that will not become law this round due to the blockage that would ultimately come from both the spineless Senate Democrats and President Obama himself. Outlets such as The New York Times reported the House GOP “vented their rage” with their vote, as if doing so was a baseless, emotional act more than anything. But this is curious considering the Left pushes the unfounded idea that Planned Parenthood is not only doing the Lord’s work, but is a necessity for women in the United States. They are wrong.
The Alliance Defending Freedom’s website lays out the facts about women’s healthcare, and about Planned Parenthood’s involvement in it all. Here are just a few.
As seen here, women’s comprehensive healthcare clinics number 13,450 while Planned Parenthood locations are at 665. PP is outnumbered about 20 to 1, so regarding options? Women have many.

Often Planned Parenthood supporters will discuss mammograms and mention PP clinics as being a place where women can receive one. This is completely false. That specific care is simply not there.
Breast cancer is a big concern for women. So why does Planned Parenthood continue to deny women potentially life-saving mammograms? Not a single Planned Parenthood has a mammogram machine. Not one. And why has Planned Parenthood cut the screenings it does do in half?
Not only are mammogram machines nonexistent at PP clinics, but PP even shares that information on their website.
Planned Parenthood doctors and nurses teach patients about breast care, connect patients to resources to help them get vital biopsies, ultrasounds, and mammograms…
The location of PP clinics? Not in poor, rural areas.
Planned Parenthood is concentrated in large cities and metro areas, and continues its exodus from rural areas, closing more and more clinics, opting to build abortion mega centers in big cities. Planned Parenthood likes to blame pro-life and pro-women’s laws for the closure of remote locations, but the truth is pretty obvious. Planned Parenthood is a business, and has decided to go and grow where the money is; where the abortion customers are, not where the women in need are.

Take a look at pregnant women who stick with Planned Parenthood through the conclusion of services. Ninety-four percent of those pregnant women get abortions, and Planned Parenthood gets about a third of its clinic income from abortion. Let’s be honest. Planned Parenthood is in the business of creating abortion customers.
Women deserve much better than an organization that does not provide services such as mammograms, and one that sees them more as an increase in profit than anything. Women’s health is important, but that is not the question here. No one wishes to reduce access to healthcare, but with a huge number of clinics which actually provide comprehensive care (and no abortions), this will not happen. The site Get Your Care is a resource for women to find a non-PP clinic close to them which can meet their needs.
