Fire at radioactive waste plant in Nevada causes part of U.S. 95 North to remain closed | 19 Oct 2015 | A portion of U.S. 95 North and two schools are closed in rural Nevada following a fire at a radioactive waste plant in Beatty. According to the Nevada Department of Transportation, U.S. 95 north from State Route 160 to Tonopah remains closed indefinitely, even though the fire is out. Multiple local and state agencies responded to the fire Sunday afternoon at U.S. Ecology…The industrial waste plant processed hazardous and radioactive waste for 30 years before closing in 1992. Nye County officials say the fire was burning eight miles from populated areas.
