Report: NATO members discussing increasing troops near Russia borders – YouTube
NATO is reportedly mulling over increasing the number of troops in member states bordering Russia and putting them under formal alliance command.
The Wall Street Journal says under one plan, the Western military alliance would have a battalion in Poland and each of the three Baltic states. Another plan includes only a single NATO battalion in the area. The move is aimed at what NATO calls deterring aggression from Moscow. Meanwhile, despite the US support for the plan, German officials have expressed reservations. Berlin has made it clear that it does not want to treat Moscow as a permanent enemy or lock it out of Europe. NATO accuses Russia of meddling in Ukraine’s internal affairs. Moscow denies any involvement.
