I suppose it is a sign that Ben Carson is being taken as serious by the political left and the media which takes its orders from them.
Today, Taegan Goddard of Political Wire told a complete lie about Ben Carson. He has a story headlined Carson Would Make Abortion Illegal Nationwide.
Ben Carson said he would “love” to see Roe vs. Wade overturned, making abortion illegal nationwide, with almost no exemptions, NBC News reports.
Said Carson: “I’m a reasonable person and if people can come up with a reasonable explanation of why they would like to kill a baby, I’ll listen.”
I’ll be the first to say I applaud Dr. Carson’ comments. Abortion is an inhumane act that has no useful medical or social purpose. The difference between an abortionist and a serial killer is mere social acceptance by the political elite.
If Carson had advocated making abortion illegal I would be giving him a standing ovation. But Ben Carson did not advocate making abortion illegal nationwide. He advocated overturning Roe versus Wade which makes infanticide a constitutionally protected activity. If Roe was repealed, regulation of abortion would return to the states. Presumably New York and California and Massachusetts would continue to cheerfully kill children. Other, more civilized, communities would be able to outlaw this barbaric practice.
Carson’s comments aside, outlawing abortion has been part of the GOP platform since 1980. In 2012, this is what the GOP ran on:
Faithful to the “self-evident” truths enshrined in the Declaration of Independence, we assert the sanctity of human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed. We support a human life amendment to the Constitution and endorse legislation to make clear that the Fourteenth Amendment’s protections apply to unborn children. We oppose using public revenues to promote or perform abortion or fund organizations which perform or advocate it and will not fund or subsidize health care which includes abortion coverage. We support the appointment of judges who respect traditional family values and the sanctity of innocent human life. We oppose the non-consensual withholding or withdrawal of care or treatment, including food and water, from people with disabilities, including newborns, as well as the elderly and infirm, just as we oppose active and passive euthanasia and assisted suicide.
One has to assume that Goddard is actually bright enough to know this. After all he is able to hold down a job and perform basic personal hygiene. The only reason for this egregiously dishonest headline and reporting is that Goddard has been told it is time gin up the old War on Women mantra and apply it to Carson because he’s looking like a strong candidate.
