Possible execution of Sheikh Nimr could trigger unrest in Saudi Arabia – YouTube
A senior Iranian lawmaker warns Saudi Arabia that the possible execution of Shia cleric Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr could result in a new wave of unrest in the kingdom’s Shia-dominated regions.
Alaeddin Boroujerdi noted that Nimr is a prominent cleric, and that killing him would be the wrong decision. Boroujerdi, who heads the Iranian parliament’s National Security and Foreign Affairs Committee, said that Riyadh’s decision to execute Sheikh Nimr isn’t logical since the cleric hasn’t committed any offense, adding that his only crime has been addressing the people. Saudi Arabia’s top court has confirmed the death sentence handed to Sheikh Nimr. The final endorsement now rests with King Salman. If confirmed, the ruling is expected to draw worldwide condemnation.
