More details continue to emerge in the Russian plane disaster over the Sinai region in Egypt. A new caveat has been added to the suspicion that the plane may have been brought down with an explosive set on board. According to RT International, a US infrared satellite might have caught a heat flash over the Sinai region around the same time the Airbus 321 disappeared from radar. “The US infrared satellite reportedly detected a heat flash in the same vicinity, indicating that an explosion may have happened on board,” explains RT. Members of the US intelligence community believe the heat flash might have been either a failure in the fuel tank of the plane, a possibility that will have to be looked into by investigators so they can determine whether or not this was the case and also to narrow down the possible causes of such a failure. Investigators have not ruled out a missile impact and the airline that operated the aircraft has ruled out mechanical failure or human error, which has directed everyone’s attention to an explosive device having been placed on board of the plane prior to take off. Meanwhile, the Russian government, which has opened an independent investigation, said that it does not rule anything as of right now and that it is necessary to study the information contained in the black boxes to determine what exactly brought the plane down. In addition to Russia, forensic teams from France and Egypt are conducting their own investigations to help determine the cause of the crash. It should take two or three more days for these investigators to complete their observations and to provide their first conclusions from the site of the crash. The reason why an explosion seems to be one of the most likely cause of the accident is that previous plane crashes that left a trail of debris over several kilometers were determined to have been brought down by explosive detonations or missiles fired from fighter jets or land-based missile batteries. The last two and most prominent cases were those of flights MH-17, which was brought down by a BUK missile over eastern Ukraine and flight 93, one of the planes cited in the 9/11 terror attacks. Someone might have taken control of the plane According to Sputniknews, another theory may be surfacing about the way the plane was brought down. “Someone might have taken control over the Russian Airbus A321 passenger plane and intentionally crashed it,” has said a former chairman of the International Federation of Airline Pilots Association. “The report that the aircraft was alternatively climbing and descending rapidly might indicate that there were severe control problems with the aircraft, or that someone other than the pilot had taken over and was trying to crash the aircraft,” Dale Leppard said. It is not clear whether Leppard meant that someone else inside the plane might have taken control of the aircraft, or if someone could have remote controlled the plane to divert it from its path to bring it down to the ground.
