Spain vows to take legal action if Catalan parl. backs independence bid – YouTube
The Spanish government has threatened to take immediate legal action against Catalonia’s parliament if the body approves the proposal for the beginning of the Independence process .
The threat comes after the Barcelona-based regional parliament agreed to put the proposal by the pro-independence camp to vote on Monday. According to a member of the Spanish government, Madrid will seek the opinion of the Council of State and then will take the final decision at a special meeting of the cabinet. The federal government argues that any attempt for Catalonia’s separation from the rest of Spain is a violation of the constitution and it will take the matter to the Constitutional Court. The pro-independence camp won the majority in the local elections in September. Catalonia’s President Artus Mas has already pledged to declare independence within 18 months if reelected.
