Today Rush Limbaugh made what is on the surface a mild criticism of a political move that the Trump campaign made, but was, in reality, a pretty big blow to Trump’s inevitability factor, when the might radio host found recent attack on Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) 100% to be a “red flag” in the Donald’s facade.
Here is the audio, courtesy of The Right Scoop:
One thing, you know, my questioning here about the way Trump has gone after Cruz here, calling a maniac refusing to work with people in the Senate .. the reason I’m focusing on that folks, because that’s so unlike Trump. That’s a huge mistake. On paper it’s a huge mistake. Trump gets away with his mistakes. Such is the bond of loyalty that his support base has for him that he gets away with them. And I don’t think he’s made that many, don’t misunderstand.
But for any of you who are holding out hope that Trump is a genuine conservative. Genuine conservative, even in the Republican field, would not go after Cruz this way. So, that’s, it just raised a red flag for me, made me somewhat curious.
That’s quite a statement actually. Red flag about whether he is a genuine conservative from the ultimate genuine conservative. Rush has not dumped Trump in the way many TV pundits and columnists have. His praise of Trump has definitely kept at least the veneer of “conservative” in Trump’s grasp … well the grasp of his fans who care about that word. I’m not convinced Trump cares one bit about it.
And Rush is correct of course. As I said this morning, the attack on Cruz amounts to Trump criticizing him for not playing ball with the establishment and the Democrats. I would say “that won’t sell well with Trump’s fans” but, as Rush notes, most have long since passed the point where Trump can do wrong in their eyes. If he says “yay GOPe” then so will they.
Still, Trump’s fans would do well to heed the words from The Right Scoop:
At the end of the day though, if he becomes president, I expect a lot of compromise with Congress, especially on his more conservative positions — and I know that going into the voting booth. If you expect something different you might be in for a big surprise.
In my view, that’s putting it mildly. But at least we’re saying it at all.

Ted Cruz is a Cuban attempting to ascend to the American throne. This shouldn’t even be an issue.
