The son of prominent Shia cleric Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr, who was executed by Saudi Arabia earlier this month, says his father knew that the House of Saud would eventually kill him and that his blood was a cheap price for the values he stood for.
Mohammed Al-Nimr said his family is having difficulty burying his father since they have not yet received his body. He added that the family believes that the Saudis have hidden Sheik Nimr’s body. Sheikh Nimr, along with 46 other convicts, was executed over terrorism charges. The cleric repeatedly demanded reforms in Saudi Arabia’s political system. His death outraged the kingdom’s Shia community, many Muslim nations and international rights groups. Amnesty International called the death sentence against Sheikh Nimr appalling.
