Obama Wants To Do Something, ANYTHING, About Gun Crimes (Except Prosecute Them)

(Before It's News)

President Obama and his word-repeaters in the press have lectured sanctimoniously over and over about the need to “do something” about guns in America. But the one thing they don’t seem to want to do is enforce the laws that already exist, or prosecute those who violate them. So what exactly is it they want to “do something” about?

Each day, the leftist voices in the real media, on social media, and in government are a little more desperate and strident about the supposed gun “problem” in America. As we saw with the New York Daily News, it is not considered out of bounds to call those who support the second amendment terrorists or murderers. That’s OK now. People are talking about changing the law so we can prosecute the NRA and gun-rights supporting legislators as accomplices to murder or terror. But when it comes to prosecuting those who break the laws that already exist, the President is far less gung-ho.

The Washington Times reports:

The administration has overseen a striking drop in prosecutions of gun crimes, winning only about 6,000 convictions in 2015 — down more than 15 percent from five years ago, and giving added weight to claims by gun rights groups that President Obama has failed to enforce the laws already on the books.

Now, you might think that not winning cases isn’t the same as failing to prosecute them. But you’d be wrong.

Part of the reason is prosecutors are simply bringing fewer cases.

Of the two most common federal gun offenses — illegally selling a firearm or using one in connection with another crime — the number of cases dropped from 11,067 in 2004 to 8,078 in 2014, according to data kept by federal prosecutors.

At Bearing Arms, Bob Owens puts it bluntly. “Obama and his allies have all the tools they need in the form of laws to crush criminal gun trafficking,” he says. “But they refuse to do so.”

Republican candidate Carly Fiorina has a succinct summary as well. Again from the Washington Times:

Mr. Obama and Democrats have used [recent incidents] to call for more gun control, even as advocates acknowledge that more stringent background checks wouldn’t necessarily have stopped such incidents from occurring. But some Republicans have pointed to the level of prosecutions to argue why piling on more legal restrictions isn’t the answer.

Former Hewlett-Packard CEO and 2016 GOP presidential candidate Carly Fiorina said recently that ideology triggers a “knee-jerk” reaction among people on the left to push for more gun controls after mass shootings.

“I actually think it’s ideology, not common sense, that causes the left wing, every time, in a knee-jerk reaction, to say the answer here is more laws when we’re not enforcing the laws we have,” Mrs. Fiorina said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” “Let’s start by enforcing the laws we have.”

This is a pattern we’ve seen a thousand times. The first instinct of every democrat on every issue is to create a new law. Prosecuting crime is a law and order issue, and they can’t compromise their “I feel your pain” attitude toward criminals by appearing tough or cracking down. So they suggest new laws and new rules, especially ones that have new targets.

For every elected or registered democrat who actually wants to prosecute criminals, there are dozens who would rather prosecute the NRA and Republican politicians. Because they don’t care about the crime. Or the criminals. Just their own political agenda. And that agenda is to disarm you.
