Libertarian Field Heats Up: – John McAfee is getting competition in his Libertarian run for the presidency.  Former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson said he is once again making a run for the oval office .  He ran back 2012 as a Republican, then dropped out only to get back in the race as a Libertarian after winning that party’s nomination. After his unsuccessful presidential bid, Johnson went on to be CEO of Cannabis Sativa, Inc.  The Libertarian Party National Presidential Nominating Convention is  the last week in May in Florida.

This should be fun: – We’re just over ten days away from a debate…in England…over Donald Trump. Most of our candidates have learned by now do not attack the Trump, because somehow he’ll get you back and you’ll be the one seen in a worse light. Britain apparently has not learned this lesson. On Jan 18th, Parliament will gather to debate whether or not Trump should be banned from the United Kingdom. Well over 550,000 people signed a petition asking for the debate, arguing people have been denied entry before due to “hate speech” and:

“If the United Kingdom is to continue applying the ‘unacceptable behaviour’ criteria to those who wish to enter its borders, it must be fairly applied to the rich as well as poor, and the weak as well as powerful.”

For his part Trump reminded Britain that if it banned him, the UK could kiss any future investments from him goodbye.  So, if we agree to keep Trump over here, will you guys agree to keep Piers Morgan over there?

The New Hampshire Firewall:  Several candidates see New Hampshire as their firewall so maybe they’re excited to see the new Public Policy Polling numbers out. Or maybe not.   Here’s a few of the top numbers.  Trump 29, Rubio 15, Christie and Kasich both at 11, Bush and Cruz each at 10.  PPP says the “establishment split” of four candidates keeps Trump on top. So, then if Trump starts to deflate, Rubio gets the votes, right? Um, no.

“If the Donald Trump collapse that’s been expected for six months but has yet to materialize ever does become a reality Ted Cruz is going to be in a very good position in New Hampshire,” said Dean Debnam, President of Public Policy Polling. “He’s next in line for Trump voters and it’s not even close.”

Oh, I so stink at trying to figure out what polls mean.

Consolidation is also on someone else’s mind:  While PPP claims a thinning of the establishment herd is needed to bring down Trump so does former RedState editor and radio man Erick Erickson.  From an article in yesterday’s Independent Journal Review Erickson says only Rubio can take out Trump and Cruz. Erickson feels the infighting between Christie, Bush and Rubio only hurts the establishment and says while Rubio may come away the eventual winner of the fight  “But getting to that point would see Rubio limping into the direct battle with Cruz, bloodied, bruised, and with a dwindling back account.”

Strangers at the door:  More than 150 complaints, roughly three quarters involving sexual assault, have now been filed with German authorities after the New Year’s Eve attack on women in Cologne. At first, officials said there wasn’t proof the attacks were committed by the refugees who were given asylum in Germany, even after the victims said they were groped or worse by men who appeared to be of “North African or Arabic”.  Now comes word from officers at the scene that 15 suspects admitted to being in Germany only a few weeks. 14 were Syrian, one was from Afghanistan and all had residence “permits” for asylum. Also, word is getting out that “three Syrians have been arrested in southern Germany on suspicion of the gang rape of two teenage girls on New Year’s Eve. If anyone really wanted to know what a War on Women looked like, this would be a good place to start.

And then there’s this: “We chose our daughter’s name, Lanesra, because it was unique and romantic,” Smith wrote.  “It wasn’t till she was two  that my husband told me it was actually his favorite soccer team, Arsenal, spelled backwards!”

Watercooler’s empty, but not for long: –  As always the ‘cooler is an OPEN THREAD  so you can comment on something you saw here or write about something new. Great for breaking news. If it’s too short for a full diary drop it in the comments. Or just drop yourself in from time to time to see what others have put up. Thread-hacking is fine. (Kinda like threadjacking, but done by nerds.)

*All emphasis mine.
