Never before has a 74-year-old, Jewish, self-described Democratic socialist won a U.S. primary, but even more notable is the generational margin by which he won. According to exit poll data, Sen. Sanders won 85 percent of voters under 30, as well as 65 percent of voters under 45. This degree of support greatly outweighs President Barack Obama’s historic margins with young voters in 2008, and threatens to upend the electoral prospects of Sec. Hillary Clinton should it continue.
We interviewed young voters in New Hampshire about why they support Sen. Sanders so strongly. You can read their responses here. We also spoke with young Republicans about why they favor Donald Trump. Watch here.
