Lavrov: Ceasefire won’t affect fighting terror
The U-S secretary of state says world powers meeting on Syria have agreed to implement a nationwide ceasefire in the war-torn county within a week.John Kerry made the remarks in Munich during a joint press conference with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov and United Nations Special Envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura. Kerry added that the parties also agreed to end hostilities and provide Humanitarian access in Syria. He further stressed that humanitarian aid will begin flowing into besieged areas in Syria this week. The Russian top diplomat also said that access will be secured in all besieged areas in Syria. Lavrov, however, stressed that the ceasefire will not affect the campaign against terrorist groups in the Arab state. He added that the parties agreed to coordinate military efforts in Syria for the first time, noting that collective efforts are needed to end the worsening humanitarian situation in Syria.
