The popular hashtag #NeverTrump was going solid for a good day, but eventually fizzled, like all hashtags do. But there seemed something suspicious – while it seemed that the hashtag was still going strong, it was no longer on the list of Twitter Trends.

So this author did a little experiment. Based on the results, #NeverTrump had more tweets in a ten minute period than the second and last trend on the United States Trends list.

At exactly 8:20 P.M. Central Time, I pulled up the top United States trend on twitter: #Oscars.

Oscars1

Immediately after, I pulled up the hashtag: #NeverTrump, and the second highest trending hashtag, Charlize Theron, and for good measure, the bottom trend Sylvester Stallone.

Then I waited for about ten minutes and took a screenshot of the results starting at 8:30 P.M., in this order:

#NeverTrump = 339 new results

#Oscars: 378 new results

Charlize Theron: 337 new results

Sylvester Stallone = 61 new results

Perhaps Twitter gets bored of certain hashtags? Or perhaps Twitter just does not like the hashtag #NeverTrump. This is not a scientific study, by any stretch and the reader will have to trust the author since there is no time stamp.

However, I challenge anyone to give it a try.
