Water Cooler 2/4/16 Open Thread – New vid from CMP, Helpful school signs, Hit me
New video from Center for Medical Progress: Goin’ straight to their press release.
“A new video at Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast and newly-released documents from a Texas Public Information Act request show how Planned Parenthood used accounting gimmicks to hide its illegal sale of fetal tissue.”
The release goes on to explain how there were “two levels ” of invoicing. The new video and related documents are at the CMP website
2 days away from another debate! Time flies when we’re having this much fun, huh? What’s new this time is there will be no undercard debate. The criteria to make it on the only stage requires a candidate to finish in the top-three in Iowa, or the top six either nationally or in New Hampshire.
Carly Fiorina is not happy with those debate rules. Due to several lower tier candidates dropping out recently, she figures she’ll be the only candidate not debating. In a letter to the RNC she claims her campaign:
“…beat Governors Christie and Kasich in Iowa this week when voters actually had their say. This campaign has the same number of delegates as Governors Bush and Kasich while Governor Christie has zero. We’re ahead of Dr. Carson in New Hampshire polling. We are 6th in hard dollars raised and have twice the cash on hand as either Governors Christie or Kasich.”
She points out, ” There are only 8 candidates left. It’s time for the RNC to demand that media executives step aside and let voters hear from all of us.”
Making it legal…again: Some lawbreakers in Maine are hoping to get back in the good graces of the legal system. It seems Maine does not allow roller derby skaters to hit each other. Hockey players can “check” each other but there’s no hitting in roller derby. “Spry Icicle” spoke before a legislative panel recently and said “skaters have been forced to break the law for the last 10 years and now want to play their sport legally.” Yahoo points out the law actually dates back to 1991, but no one is exactly sure why it was actually needed.
This is how it’s done: New signage is up at the Wagoner County schools in Oklahoma.
“Having a sign in your front yard saying ‘this is a gun-free zone’ just tells the idiots, “Come on in,” because we can’t defend ourselves,” Superintendent Charles McMahan said Wednesday in a telephone interview.
Tulsa World says the new signs now tell everyone, “Please be aware that certain staff members at Okay Public Schools can be legally armed and may use whatever force is necessary to protect our students.”

- Dr. Ben Carson is cost cutting. Dozens of staff expected to go, salaries cut and the candidate may have to fly commercially.
- There’s been endorsements trickling out lately for various candidates. But I can’t remember the last time I so many in one fell swoop on the campaign trail. 18 Maine state House Representatives announced today they were endorsing Ted Cruz.
- That smell from Iowa is coming from the Dem side of the aisle. A Des Moines Register editorial suggests an audit is necessary because the results of the Democratic caucuses were too close and “too many questions have been raised.”
Trumpism of the day: Referring to “politicians” while at a rally in Exeter N.H, Trump said: “These people — I’d like to use really foul language,” reports The Hill. “I won’t do it. I was going to say they’re really full of s–t. But I won’t say that.” “No, it’s true. It’s true. I won’t say it. I won’t say it. But they are,” he added. “But I won’t say that because it’s too controversial. Let me tell you — and, of course, it’s not politically correct.”
Today is National USO day. USO stands for United Service Organizations created by uniting six civilian orgs under one banner. The USO’s goal was and is to support U.S. Troops.
