Hey, Mr. Trump? Divorce Yourself from Planned Parenthood
Today is World Down Syndrome Day. It’s the 21st of March, and what better time to highlight the full and precious lives of those who have an extra copy of Chromosome 21. Their uniqueness does not qualify them, nor anyone else, as trash to be discarded.
For too long the abortion industry, with Planned Parenthood as its giant, has promoted aborting those who have tested positive in the womb for Down Syndrome. The pro-abortion scientific community calls it “elective termination,” a sterile, non-violent sounding term which really means lives they consider to be flawed and marked for destruction. It is estimated that the Down Syndrome population in the United States would be 30% higher if not for these types of abortions. What a sad affirmation of our culture of death!
Currently, we have a presidential candidate, the GOP front-runner no less, who has praised Planned Parenthood on numerous occasions. “They do good things for women!” he says. “They provide necessary services!” he might exclaim. False. Planned Parenthood is outnumbered 20 to 1 by comprehensive women’s healthcare clinics. And, as Live Action News reports, abortion services at Planned Parenthood have also pushed aside other services. Of the 61,000,000 women of reproductive age in the U.S., less than 1% received a breast exam at Planned Parenthood in 2014.
Yet, he praises them.
Well, on this World Down Syndrome Day, let’s remember that the bloodthirsty group Donald Trump praises actively lobbied against a pro-life bill in the Indiana legislature which sought to ban abortions based upon a Down Syndrome diagnosis. Planned Parenthood did the same thing in Ohio, too. They cheer on a woman’s decision to destroy her child, and happily discriminate against those with disabilities. By praising this same organization instead of condemning it outright, Trump diminishes the pro-life cause. By not making a very black-and-white distinction between pro-abort PP and their many non-abortive competitors, he undermines the precious lives celebrated today.
Thankfully, the Indiana legislature passed the measure, and Governor Mike Pence, who is pro-life, is expected to sign it.
Indiana House Bill 1337 would ban abortion doctors from knowingly aborting an unborn baby solely because of a genetic disability such as Down syndrome, the unborn baby’s race or sex.
I don’t expect Donald Trump, who is purposefully lazy about educating himself on most issues, including pro-life ones, to commend the legislation. Yet he has been ready to defend the organization which actively worked to strike down the measure.
Mr. Trump, it’s time for another divorce – from Planned Parenthood. It says much about your complete lack of actual conservatism that condemning this organization is something you still can’t bring yourself to do.
