Let’s Take a Break

(Before It's News)

We interrupt our usually scheduled castigation of the GOP’s gilded toad, Donald Trump, to bring you something hopeful, for those seeking more tender fare, in the midst of the madness.

Sometimes, celebrities and sports stars are more than pampered, arrogant boors. Some of those who come to mind include Tim Tebow, with his indefatigable good nature and enduring faith. He used his celebrity to create the Tim Tebow Foundation. The stated mission is “…to bring Faith, Hope and Love to those needing a brighter day in their darkest hour of need.” The foundation works mainly with sick children, and is a shining example of good and godly stewardship with celebrity status.

Gary Sinise is a favorite of mine. He took a role that would become a movie favorite, and parlayed it into a vehicle for helping our nation’s veterans. The Lieutenant Dan Band performs concerts all over the world, with a goal of raising money to help military families, as well as highlight other organizations for veteran aid. For example, R.I.S.E provides adapted vehicles, home modifications, wheelchairs and trackchairs to severely disabled vets. Serving Heroes brings classic American meals to our nation’s defenders at airports or other points of departure/arrival, when a taste of “home” is the comfort they need. The Gary Sinise Foundation is a dedicated partner in outreach and caring for those who care for us, at home and abroad.

Then there are those who may not be more openly involved with any specific organization, but who just display positive character, at a time when our youth culture is being battered by the Kardashians, Miley Cyrus, gangsta rap, and Socialist candidates promising them maximum payback for minimum effort.

Stephen Curry, of the Golden State Warriors, recently broke a lucrative shoe deal with Nike. The company took umbrage with Curry, a Christian, writing a Bible verse on his shoes and wearing them out onto the court. He signed a deal with Under Armour, who were more than happy to see the same Bible verse – Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me” – printed out on his signature UA shoes, and carried out onto the court. Curry, in a testament to his faith, remarked,

“I know why I play the game, and it’s not to score 30 points a night, but it’s to use the stage I’m on. I’ve been put here for a specific purpose: to be a witness and to share my testimony as I go through it.”

Those are three examples, and I know there are more. By all means, visit the websites that are linked within the body of the article. Explore and consider partnering with these worthy efforts to make life better for those with a need. Maybe suggest and link other such organizations in the comments section. Share stories of celebrities caught being good. I’m sure in this crazy, tense campaign season, we can all benefit from taking a break to hear about something uplifting.

See? I’m not always angry.
