Pat Buchanan Says If Ted Cruz Wins An ‘Awful Lot’ of Trump Supporters Will ‘Just Go Home’

(Before It's News)

Okay fine I’ll add more to this. Pat Buchanan was on Fox News last night talking about the election, of course, and he said that if Ted Cruz wins fair and square, people who support Trump would take their ball and go home.

“I think if Cruz beats Trump, it think it … all these people coming out, where do they all come from, and voting? Frankly some of them came out to vote against Trump, but most of them came out to vote for Trump because he’s a populist conservative, he’s gonna secure the border, make America great, all of these things. This positive optimistic outlook. I think, if Cruz takes it away from Trump I think an awful lot of those folks just go home.”

I mean, don’t let the door hit you, amirite? The idea here is that we’re supposed to think, ‘well you can’t just throw away those new voters, you need them to win.’ Whether that is true or not remains to be seen, but whether it matters or not can be decided right now. It’s a complete logical mess. You need them to win? Oh yeah?

You know how we would win for sure? If the entire base of Democrats voted for our guy. Or how about every single person under the age of 30.

In the first place, obviously that won’t happen. In the second place, to even try would mean throwing out every single aspect of the Republican party as a unique party. Is that what you would advocate? Just toss everything? How about we have voters fill out a wish list of goodies, take the top 100, and just agree to hand them out? That would get votes right? These extreme examples illustrate the point and establish the principle. It is simply a fact that in order to have a unique, specific party, you must have an agreed upon set of basic ideas for which to advocate. So people who make this “oh don’t be a purist” argument are really just spouting nonsense. You can’t just advocate literally anything and still be a Republican. Even if that means we lose voters. It’s basic logic.

We are against slavery. Will that cost us the vote of pro-slavery people? Probably. Do we care? No.

The new Trump voters aren’t motivated by what makes the Republican party the Republican party. They aren’t in this to limit the size and scope of government. They aren’t coming out to Trump rallies because he’s talking about reducing the debt, downsizing intrusive government like the EPA, or because he is making an argument for personal liberty. Those ideas are not his platform. To keep his new voters would require two things: 1) changing the fundamental principles Republicans stand for and 2) putting Donald Trump in charge. Because face it: no him, no them.

And not for nothing, but a party based on the personality cult of one person is not a Republican ideal, either. Although it is certainly one at home in the Democrat party. As are many of the things Trump and his new voters believe in. Were it not for illegal immigration, that’s where they’d all be.

And as far as I’m concerned, it’s exactly where they can go back to. Or home. I don’t really care. They don’t fit in because we don’t stand for the same things. I said it at the top of this post and I’ll say it again. If you’re telling me we lose the Trump contingent if Cruz beats him fair and square, there’s really only one response.

Bye.
