Senior Saudi cleric arrested in Shia-majority east
Ayatollah Hossein al-Razi was arrested after writing an article in which he denounced the Saudi rulers for jailing and executing critics and dissidents, including Sheik Baqer al-Nimr who was beheaded back in January. The Ayatollah also criticized the deadly Saudi airstrikes which have caused thousands of civilian casualties in Yemen. The cleric, who led the Friday prayers in the eastern al-Ahsa region before his arrest, slammed the monarchy for labeling Lebanon’s Hezbollah resistance movement as a terrorist organization. The US-allied Saudi Arabia is notorious for its grave human rights abuses and harsh crackdown on all forms of dissent.
