Your Complete Tuesday Primary Results and Delegate Count: What Happened And Who Swept What
Another Tuesday vote has come and gone, and two more states and another territory voted in the Republican Presidential Primary. States up for grabs last night were Arizona and Utah, and Trump and Cruz each won one. Kasich, as you may surmise, did not win anything. But he did get a lovely parting gift. Probably.
The delegate projections are easy tonight, the exact vote totals less so. Here we go:
Arizona: Donald Trump won in the winner take all state, but did not break 50% of the vote. That is a bar he has yet to achieve this primary season, meaning in every state that he has won, more voters voted against him than for him. In Arizona, Trump took 47.1% of the vote. Ted Cruz followed in second place with 24.6%, and Kasich a dismal fourth at just 10%.
Yes fourth. He finished behind Marco Rubio, who despite being out of the race took a decent third with 13.6%. Early voting folks.
That means all 58 delegates go for Trump.
Utah: This is the bigger story of the night for the simple fact that you had to break 50% to get all the delegates, which Ted Cruz did by a longshot. Cruz won handily with a gigantic 69% of the vote. John Kasich came in second with a comparitively minor 16.4% and Trump with an even smaller hand at just 14..2%.
This puts all 40 delegates from Utah down for Ted Cruz. A big win both in real numbers and as a moral victory. Utah is the reddest state electorally, staunchly conservative, and fiercely anti-Trump. That says a whole lot right there.
American Samoa: Of the 9 delegates elected in American Samoa, all are unbound by rule. So no news there.
The Day: RedState puts the total delegates at:
DONALD TRUMP: 58
SEN. TED CRUZ: 40
GOV. JOHN KASICH: 0
The delegate race overall stands at:
DONALD TRUMP: 739
SEN. TED CRUZ: 465
SEN. MARCO RUBIO: 166
GOV. JOHN KASICH: 143
