Donald Trump Touts the Endorsement of an Infamous Convicted Indianapolis Rapist
During the course of a campaign stop yesterday, Donald Trump touted the endorsement of the most high profile convicted rapist in Indianapolis history. I am speaking, of course, of former heavyweight boxer and notoriously violent insane person Mike Tyson.
The former heavyweight champion, of course, has a history in Indianapolis. It was here where he was convicted of raping beauty pageant contestant Desiree Washington in 1992 — and subsequently spent three years in prison.
“Mike Tyson endorsed me,” Trump told the crowd. “I love it. He sent out a tweet. Mike. Iron Mike. You know, all the tough guys endorse me. I like that, OK?
“But Mike said, ‘I love Trump. I endorse Trump.’ And that’s the end. I’m sure he doesn’t know about your economic situation in Indiana. But when I get endorsed by the tough ones, I like it, because you know what? We need toughness now. We need toughness.”
Of course, apart from being the most high profile convicted rapist in Indiana history, Mike Tyson also has a lot in common with Donald Trump. He had a career that was built on a carefully managed public reputation that was mostly generated by beating up on carefully selected opponents. Prior to his imprisonment for rape, Tyson carefully avoided higher caliber boxers like Evander Holyfield and Lennox Lewis. When he was forced to confront them in the ring after his release from prison, and was unable to bully either around, he turned his rematch against Holyfield into a publicity stunt when he realized that Holyfield was just flat out a better boxer than he was.
