Jeff Merkley of Oregon endorsed Bernie Sanders for president on Wednesday, becoming the first member of the U.S. Senate to back him and breaking from the large majority of Democratic leaders who are supporting front-runner Hillary Clinton. The endorsement comes ahead of next week's New York primary, which is critical to the Vermont senator's long-shot chances to catch up with Mrs. Clinton's commanding lead in delegates… “Bernie Sanders is boldly and fiercely addressing the biggest challenges facing our country,” he wrote in a New York Times essay published Wednesday.
