Quinnipiac: Heading Into Pennsylvania

(Before It's News)

Wisconsin was Cruz Country. The Texas senator easily walked away from the competition.

OH, and John Kasich was there, too.

Heading into the Pennsylvania primary, on April 26th, we’ll see a continuation of the Seniors Tour. The hay-haired septuagenarian leads among Republicans with 39%, while Cruz is drawing 30%, according to Quinnipiac.

Kasich is currently pulling 24% of the voters. The imagined surge is not forthcoming. People who care about him should be encouraging him to salvage some of his dignity, at this point. Go away, Governor Kasich. Just stop.

On the Democrat side, Hillary Clinton holds a 50% to 44% lead over Bernie Sanders. We can assume the other 6% of Pennsylvania’s Democrats are contemplating the benefits of setting their hair on fire, as opposed to voting for either of them.

Where the true quirk of this primary cycle comes in is with the head-to-head matchups. According to Quinnipiac, when polled, Pennsylvania voters show some surprising numbers:

In the head-to-head general election matchups:

  • Kasich over Clinton 51 – 35 percent;
  • Kasich over Sanders 46 – 40 percent;
  • Clinton over Trump, 45 – 42 percent;
  • Clinton ties Cruz 43 – 43 percent;
  • Sanders tops Trump 48 – 40 percent;
  • Sanders beats Cruz 46 – 38 percent.

While nobody seems to want him over Trump or Cruz, Pennsylvania’s voters see John Kasich as the only candidate who can beat both Clinton and Sanders. Trump loses to both, while Cruz could tie with Clinton, but loses to Sanders.

Weird season, weird numbers. Regardless of how it plays out, at this point, it seems that a contested convention is very much in our future.
