The push to hold gunmakers responsible for gun violence continued on Thursday.

A lawsuit from the families of Sandy Hook victims, which was filed in January 2015, will move forward in an attempt to penalize the manufacturer of the gun, and the seller of the gun, which was the weapon used to kill 26 children back in 2012. While I can sympathize with those who lost loved ones at the hands of a lunatic, the suit is nothing more than deflecting blame.

As CTPost reports:

…the families of 10 victims of the Sandy Hook tragedy filed suit against the Remington Arms Company, the maker of the Bushmaster AR-15, used by Lanza, Camfour Holding LLC, the gun’s distributor and Riverview Sales, the store where Lanza’s mother bought the gun. They claimed the gun maker and sellers knew that civilians are unfit to operate the assault rifle and yet continue selling it to civilians disregarding the threat the gun poses.

The manufacturer and the gun store sought to dismiss the suit, citing PLCAA (Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act) which “bars lawsuits against manufacturers and sellers of a product that is used in a criminal action”. However, Superior Court Judge Barbara Bellis threw that out, essentially saying that the PLCAA does not keep the court from hearing the case. Whether or not the suit is thrown out in the future due to it contents has yet to be determined.

This is just another attempt to find somewhere to place blame after a gun tragedy, besides the perpetrator. Adam Lanza was solely at fault for those horrific actions in December 2012, more than three years ago. His mother had legally purchased the gun, and was not suddenly inspired to go on a rampage killing. The gun didn’t fire automatically, killing unsuspecting civilians. The gun did not cause harm until Adam, with evil in his heart, decided to use it to harm others. Liberals are unable and/or unwilling to separate the actions of a criminal from that which they use to commit said crime, especially if it’s a gun.

If we use liberal logic, car manufacturers should be held responsible for the actions of a driver after a vehicle is purchased. While we’re at it, knife manufacturers should pay up for causing knife deaths, and we should probably discuss baseball bats, rope, and all other sharp objects, too. I mean, that’s only the next step in keeping deaths from occurring, right? This is utter nonsense.

Responsibility is a four-letter word to most in modern American society, and this is incredibly clear when we view reactions to gun violence. This of course does not seem to translate to inner city gun violence, like that which occurs frequently in Chicago. Death in suburbia seems to cause a bigger outcry. That is just another liberal hypocrisy.

As CTPost reports in the same article, Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton praised Judge Bellis’ decision:

“Today’s ruling in Connecticut is an important step forward for these families, who are bravely fighting to hold irresponsible gunmakers accountable for their actions.” Clinton said in a statement. “They deserve their day in court. Period. Unfortunately, PLCAA – the sweeping immunity law that protects gun manufacturers and dealers – still remains a major obstacle for these families and others seeking to hold these gun companies accountable. That is why, as president, I would lead the charge to repeal this law. Nothing can make these families whole again after losing their children and loved ones in andy Hook, but they deserve a president who will fight for them, and I am committed to doing just that.”

She’s right that nothing will make the families whole again after losing a loved one, but punishing those who produce or sell a gun is definitely not the answer. Then again, true accountability and responsibility is not something Hillary is a fan of, either.
