The era of cronyism has arrived for Barack Obama and Google
Barack Obama and Google have had a cozy relationship for years. He curried their favor in 2007, then-CEO Eric Schmidt was all over him by October 2008, and by November Google’s competitors saw what was going on, even as Schmidt kept on working with them in 2012.
Now the era of great cronyism has come for the Obama-Google relationship, as he repays them for their support.

How else can we explain the wave of good news the administration has handed to one company?
They’re getting a regulatory windfall in new FCC set top regulations, handing them data they would otherwise have to pay for.
They’re getting special cut outs for Google Fiber, subsidizing them at the expense of their competition.
Google comes before safety, as self-driving cars are going to get the benefit of Google-friendly interpretations.
Obama gave them a leg up getting into the Cuban market.
FTC’s antitrust investigation magically went away.
And finally, Michael Powell connects the dots. A former FCC commissioner himself, he’s described the whole series of events at FCC that have shown a consistent bias Google’s way.
What other corporation gets this kind of special treatment? Whatever happened to “You didn’t build that?” I guess enough campaign donations go a long way.
