US can’t separate moderates from jihadists in Aleppo – investigative journalist
Truce could be established in Aleppo according to Russian Foreign Minister
Russia blames Nusra Front for wrecking planned truce in Syria’s Aleppo
The Russian Defence Ministry on Wednesday said an upsurge in violence by Nusra Front militants had thwarted plans to extend a truce to the Syrian city of Aleppo the previous day, Russian news agencies reported.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov suggested on Tuesday after meeting U.N. Syria envoy Staffan de Mistura that a deal covering Aleppo was close, saying Russian and U.S. military personnel might announce a decision “in the coming hours”.
But such a local truce, also known as “a regime of calm,” never materialized.
“As a result of attacks by the Nusra Front on the Az Zagra quarters, and heavy shelling by Hellfire rocket systems of other residential areas which caused numerous deaths among civilians, the introduction of a ‘regime of calm’ in Aleppo was disrupted,” Russian news agencies quoted Russian Defence Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov as saying on Wednesday.
Aleppo has been the scene of the worst surge in fighting in recent days, wrecking the first major ceasefire of the five-year-old civil war, sponsored by the United States and Russia, which had held since February.
Russia and U.S. military officers were now holding “active consultations” with Syria’s government leadership and the “moderate opposition” on how to introduce a “regime of calm” in Aleppo as soon as possible, Konashenkov said.
The ceasefire in Aleppo and its suburbs was originally planned to last for 24 hours and to be later extended for a further two days, he was cited as saying.
Rebel fighters launched an assault in Aleppo on Tuesday, firing rockets on a hospital.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a British-based group that monitors the conflict, said rebel rockets had killed 19 people in government-held territory, including an unspecified number at the al-Dabit hospital.

John Kerry’s Phony Push for Peace in Syria

Washington wants war, not peace. It continues endless aggression on Syria for regime change – using proxy terrorist foot soldiers to do its dirty work.
Conflict will continue as long as its objective remains unattained. Its calls for peace ring hollow. On Monday, John Kerry met with pro-Western UN Syrian envoy Staffan de Mistura.
They discussed collapsed peace talks ahead of attempting another farcical effort to revive them. Kerry lied, saying Washington seeks “not just re-implementation of cessation, but a path forward for (it) to hold.”
US-backed terrorists continue ravaging parts of Aleppo they control, Syrian forces with Russian aerial support remain committed to liberate the city.
Endless war rages. Washington systematically undermines Moscow’s best efforts to restore peace and stability. Kerry criticized vital Russian and Syrian war on terrorism.
He lied, saying “(y)ou cannot have legitimate political talks about peace when the parties at the table have both signed up to an agreement which calls for a full cessation of hostilities countrywide as well as a full delivery of humanitarian materials countrywide, and yet one party is blatantly violating that agreement.”
Fact: Washington, its imperial partners, and terrorist foot soldiers alone flagrantly violate Security Council Resolution 2254, calling for cessation of hostilities among other provisions.
Fact: International law affirms the right of self-defense. Assad responsibly aims to liberate Syria from US-backed terrorists killing civilians, committing atrocities, wanting his legitimate government toppled.
Washington’s regional partners include Riyadh’s despotic monarchy, other likeminded Gulf States, tyrannical Turkey under Erdogan and rogue state Israel – allied wanting Syria ravaged and destroyed.
Qatar-controlled Al Jazeera reported many (unnamed) diplomats, saying “Russia is not properly invested in this political process…(I)nstead (it’s) pursuing or allowing (its) allies to pursue a military option…(Things) are close to collapse…”
Al Jazeera and other media scoundrels fail to explain Washington bears full responsibility. Its rogue partners share it.
