Syria in Last 24 Hours: Terrorists Sustain Heavy Losses in Army’s Offensive in Damascus Countryside
The Syrian army and popular forces continued their military operations against the terrorist groups in Damascus countryside, and inflicted heavy losses on them over the past 24 hours.
The Syrian army killed and wounded scores of the ISIL militants in Damascus countryside.
The terrorist groups also sustained heavy casualties in other key provinces across Syria.
Damascus
The Syrian Army backed by Hezbollah and National Defense Forces (NDF) took full control over the strategic town of Deir Al-Assafir in Damascus province after a series of fierce clashes.
According to a field source in Eastern Ghouta, militants withdrew from the region before they were completely encircled by the Syrian army and its allies.
According to the source, the terrorists’ retreat occurred when they faced the Syrian forces’ heavy fire, lost tens of members and sustained damages in arms and equipment.
The source added that the Syrian soldiers will now focus on the strategic town of Zobdeen.
Also, the Syrian army pounded and destroyed the military positions of terrorists group in the town of Khan al-Sheikh in the Western part of Damascus, killing 30 militants and their commanders.
The attacks were launched after al-Salam highway which links Damascus to Quneitra province was freed by the Syrian army and its allies.
Also in another development in the Eastern Ghouta region near the Syrian capital city, the army troops advanced 250 meters to the Southeastern parts of Katibah.
They also seized back several blocks on the way towards Khan al-Sheikh’s pharmaceutical plant.
Military sources said that the army is still crushing the al-Nusra Front terrorists’ lines in al-Salam highway and Khan al-Sheikh in Western Ghouta.
Also the Syrian fighter jets are pounding the terrorists’ gathering centers in Khan al-Sheikh farms in the outskirts of Damascus city, they added.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) announced that the Syrian army and its allies have seized full control over the Southern parts of Eastern Ghouta in Damascus province after several months of clashes with the terrorist groups.
According to the SOHR, the Syrian army and Hezbollah forces, backed by the air force, could seize back the Southern strip of Eastern Gouta which includes Deir al-Assafir, Zobdeen, Noula, Bazina, Harasta al-Qantara, Haush al-Hamsi, Haush al-Duwair, Bala, al-Rakabia and al-Bayaz towns and villages.
It added that the Syrian forces and its allies used over two months of infighting among the militant groups of Jeish al-Salam, Faylaq al-Rahman and Jeish al-Fostat, which has left over 500 terrorists dead, to win back full control of the Southern parts of Eastern Ghouta.
Hama
The Syrian army units’ continued pounding of terrorist groups in Hama province killed two notorious militant commanders.
Osama Mohammad Turkamani and Qatiba Ali Taria, nom de guerre Hilawi, were killed in the two towns of al-Zara and Hor Benafsa along with tens of other comrades.
During the Thursday army attacks in Zara and Hor Benafsa towns, a large cache of terrorists’ weapons and their vehicles were also destroyed.
Meantime, the Syrian army’s artillery units showed quick reaction to al-Nusra Front and Jund al-Aqsa terrorist groups’ attacks in the Northern parts of Hama province, repelling the offensive.
Al-Nusra Front and Jund al-Aqsa continued offensive in the Northern parts of Hama, launching a new assault on the villages of Buwayda and Lahaya on Thursday.
According to a source, artillery units of the Syrian army defused the Takfiri terrorists’ attack, and killed and injured at least 18 militants.
The source added that the Syrian and Russian air force pounded positions of Jund Al-Aqsa at Al-Lataminah and Kafr Zita after the army repelled the terrorists’ attacks, inflicted heavy losses on militants.
Raqqa
The Syrian air force launched heavy attacks against the ISIL positions in Tabaqa region in the Western part of Raqqa province on Thursday.
The airstrikes inflicted heavy damage on the militants while killing tens of them, including a field commander, a military source said.
Different weapons and equipment belonging to the ISIL terrorists were also destroyed in the attacks, he added.
Deir Ezzur
Tens of ISIL members were killed in the Syrian army and air force operations in different parts of the Eastern province of Deir Ezzur with the remaining terrorists fleeing the battlefield.
“50 ISIL Takfiri terrorists were killed as their dens were destroyed in the vicinity of Panorama region, al-Tharda Mountain and al-Mayadeen road in Deir Ezzur province,” a military commander said on Thursday.
The Syrian army units clashed with the Takfiri terrorist groups affiliated to the ISIL after they infiltrated into the vicinity of al-Mazare’ (farms) in the Southeast of Panorama in the Southwestern outskirts of Deir Ezzur city, the commander added.
Also, field sources said that the Syrian air force targeted the ISIL terrorists’ gathering centers in al-Sana’a region in Deir Ezzur while the army’s artillery units inflicted heavy damage on the militants in the same region and killed dozens of them.
The Syrian fighter jets also bombed the ISIL headquarters in al-Mari’a village in the Southeastern parts of Deir Ezzur, leaving tens of terrorists dead or wounded and destroying their weapons and vehicles, they said, adding that the remaining militants fled the scene after facing the heavy fire.
Homs
The army and its allies continued their advance in the vicinity of the oil-rich region of al-Shaer in the Eastern parts of Homs province with the support of the Syrian and Russian air backup.
Field sources said that the Syrian troops seized control over more areas near al-Shaer after heavy clashes with the ISIL terrorists, killing several militants and destroying their vehicles and equipment.
The sources added that concurrent with the land operations, the Syrian and Russian fighter jets pounded the terrorists’ positions near al-Shaer.
Other clashes were also reported in al-Jazal, another oil-rich region in Eastern Homs.
