(Before It's News)

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich told Chris Wallace Sunday morning that if he was asked to be Trump’s running mate, he would have to sit down and talk with Donald Trump before saying “yes.”  But he also added that he “would be hard pressed not to say yes,” he just wasn’t sure if he wanted to take on the challenge.

Watch below:

TRANSCRIPT

CHRIS WALLACE: You knew this was coming.  A lot of speculation–don’t give me that look–about you running–

NEWT GINGRICH: I thought you were above this. (laughing)

WALLACE: No I’m not above it.  This is what I do for a living. And I know you didn’t think I was above it.  There’s a lot of speculation that he is going to ask you to be his running mate.  Now if he asks you, you’re certainly going to say yes?

GINGRICH: Well if he asks me I’m certainly going to say I want to sit down and talk about it.  I don’t think it’s an automatic yes, I think you have to think through- what does he think the job involves.

WALLACE: And if he indicates, as I’m sure he would, that you’re going to play a big role..?

GINGRICH: If he can convince Callista and me that it’s doable and it’s serious, and that we would in fact contribute, I think I would be very hard pressed not to say yes.

WALLACE: Would you like to do it?

GINGRICH: I don’t know, it’s certainly a great challenge, but as you know I have a pretty interesting exciting life. We’re premiering a new movie on Washington in Mount Vernon Friday night, we have a new book coming out Rediscovering God in America this week, so we’re pretty busy but we could probably be- we could be lured into a new path.

He does mention his focus on his latest book and movie endeavors and overall busy life, but seriously, is there anyone who doesn’t see right through the game Gingrich is playing right now?  He was a presidential candidate himself in 2012, so the aspirations are there.  I don’t buy this “well I might be too busy, but let me talk to my wife about it” act.  He has already made it clear now in 2016 that he is desperate to remain relevant in the political world by riding Trump’s coattails to the ends of the earth.

Newt, you aren’t fooling anyone.  We know you’re already salivating at the thought.
