Coming to a city near you

Mark your calendar.  John Boehner is planning another yuuuge summer tour.

“The trip — on Boehner’s bus, dubbed “Freedom One” — will begin after the Republican National Convention in Cleveland and end Labor Day weekend. Boehner has done these trips for years, but it is especially significant that the former speaker — who left Congress after being targeted by House conservatives — is spending his summer campaigning less than a year after leaving office.

He must be under the delusion he’s some kind of rock star. Boehner’s best known recent hits include calling Ted Cruz “Lucifer in the flesh” and House Freedom Caucus members “knuckleheads.*  Politico says the cross country tour will be to campaign and raise funds for House Republicans.

* If you were looking for something a little more grassroots friendly you may want to double check your calendar is booked RedState Gathering, Aug. 12-14th, Denver.

Obamacare and the Birth control Mandate go back to lower court

The Supreme Court is sending the case of Zubik v Burwell back to the lower courts to reach some kind of a compromise. The case involved some religious groups who are opposed to the birth control mandate from having to provide it for their employees.  Per the Hill,

“The court’s ruling Monday ignores the major question in the case, which is whether religious groups, like Little Sisters of the Poor, have been “substantially burdened” by the ObamaCare mandate.

It also doesn’t decide whether the federal government “has a compelling interest” to enforce the mandate.”

You’re not from around here, are you?

A pair of helpful foreign tourists got in trouble in Yellowstone National Park after being nice to the local wildlife. East Idaho News says the father and son came across a bison calf and thought it was freezing.  Being concerned over it’s welfare the pair put the calf in the back of their SUV and hauled it to a ranger station.  Click here if you want to see how a baby bison would fit in your SUV.  The bison, which is more fur than anything, was taken back to the spot where it was picked up. The tourists were ticketed. Because that’s how we reward tourists for being  too darn nice for their own good.

I’m with stupid  ↔

Since early on this election season Donald Trump has called for Muslims to be banned from entering the US.  Back in December, British Prime Minister David Cameron said “I think his remarks are divisive, stupid and wrong.”  That must have really stung because here we are, five months later, and Trump tells an NBC news British morning show Cameron’s got it all wrong:

Number one, I’m not stupid, OK? I can tell you that right now — just the opposite,” he told Morgan, the former CNN talk-show host. “Number two, in terms of divisive, I don’t think I’m a divisive person. I’m a unifier, unlike our president now I’m a unifier.”

Any plans you might have had to send Trump helpers Paul Manafort and Corey Lewandowski “I’m with Stupid” T-shirts for Christmas, are just going to have to wait.

Libertarians debate today

What’s billed as the final Libertarian Party debate before the party’s national convention takes place today from noon till 2:00 Pacific time in Las Vegas. It will be recorded so if you can’t make it look for it on the web soon.  The invitation promises  “Governor Gary Johnson, Cybersecurity Pioneer John McAfee, and activist and entrepreneur Austin Petersen will debate a broad range of topics from the War On Drugs to foreign policy to censorship…”.  It’s also entirely possible transgender bathrooms could be brought up at the debate, as well as other LGBT issues, since the sponsor of the event is OUT for Liberty Nevada.

 The World of Warcraft Cookbook

Need a gift for the person in your life who is a gamer AND is a gastronomic wonderkind? Simon and Schuster has the must-have item coming out soon says C-NET:

“World of Warcraft: The Official Cookbook,” due in October from Simon & Schuster, has recipes for food inspired by the online game, like Honey-Spiced Lichen, Dragonbreath Chili, Sweet Potato Bread, Beer Basted Boar Ribs, and Ironforge Rations made with canned haggis.”

Yuuummy. And it’s not a problem if you can’t stock up on dragons and spiders for your recipes.  The  Chimaerok Chops are actually made with lamb chops,  Crunchy Spider Surprise uses crab and there are other substitutions as well.

Today is unusual. It’s National Sea Monkey Day.  And the best place to find all the info on them is right here.  Interesting thing about the little brine shrimp is they’re born with a single eye but grow two more later on plus they breathe through their feet.  Also it’s National Mimosa Day.  The drink, not the tree.  OJ and champagne. Can’t really mess it up.

There you have today’s Water Cooler. All the sludge and scum I could scrape up today. But I’m sure I’ve missed some. If you find breaking news or anything of interest just drop it below. And check back often to see what others leave behind.  Don’t worry about thread jacking the cooler, it’s always OPEN THREAD.
