Why the Trump Camp Lies to #NeverTrump

(Before It's News)

There’s a rage that is very specific to the Trump camp directed at those who refuse to vote Trump, even with a gun to their head. It’s not even a level of anger that Trump supporters give to the Democrats. It’s an anger they possess because #NeverTrump is the first hurdle in their way to winning the nomination for President.

And we’re a tall one. They view us as traitors who are handing the Presidency over to Hillary by not falling in line. That not voting for Trump means we must support Hillary is a fantasy in and of itself, told to those who have walked away in an attempt to guilt us into pulling the lever for a reality show host. I address that in this article here.

But by the very way they rage against #NeverTrump, they reveal how very afraid they are about going into battle without a unified Republican party. Their claims of not needing us, and their braggadocio over the party now belonging to them all seem rather impotent in the face of the monster that is the Clinton campaign. They’re now alone against it, with little support from the groups they alienated to get to this point, such as women, and minorities.

It’s why you see Trump beginning to lean left on issues to try to pad his support.

Trump needs the full force of the Republican party to win, and so Trump needs #NeverTrump to come back. Trouble is, his base – who also recognizes this problem – can’t bring themselves to stop throwing a tantrum long enough to attract us.

And so they rage over Twitter. They rage of Facebook. They rage over Reddit. They rage, and rage, and yet we don’t move. Whodathunkit?

So they’re left to try another tactic to bring us in. They lie.

One lie is to convince us that heroes of the #NeverTrump movement have come over to their side, or are at least trying to. Rumors abounded that Rubio had been secretly lobbying for a position as Trump’s VP. This turned out to be a complete fabrication. Just less than two months prior, Rubio was comparing Trump to a 3rd world strongman, and that Republicans who support Trump would have to answer for it later. Then Sarah Rumpf reported that sources close to Rubio – including senior advisors – were saying there’s a snowball’s chance in Hell of the Senator even considering a role in his administration.

If Rubio had signed on with Trump, or even floated the idea that he’d do it, it would have been a devastating blow to #NeverTrump, who consider Rubio something of a hero. And Rubio isn’t the only one Trump looked at in terms of attracting the erstwhile Republicans. Trump announced at one point that he was open to bringing Ted Cruz on as VP. While unlikely that Cruz would accept, the very idea that Trump would announce he would consider it says more to the idea that he’s trying to win #NeverTrump over than not. A weak attempt, but a revealing one.

Then there’s the talking point that leaving Trump to fend for himself will give Hillary a win, and thus we will lose the Supreme Court. In terms of popularity, this is the most used lie I’ve seen so far.

What Trump and his supporters forget is that the Senate must confirm the nominee before he can assume the bench. It is true that should Hillary take power in the White House, we’ll likely get a radically leftist Judge. To stop that, the current Senate may approve Merrick Garland. While something of a centrist, he’s still a leftist, and one who is none too friendly to the Second Amendment.

This is the likely scenario we will see in the future, as a Clinton win is likely to happen.

But the Trump camp likes to bait #NeverTrump with a sweet proposition. They claim that if Trump is the nominee, we’ll see the opposite happen. We’ll get a very rightwing judge, and maybe even – and how could we resist this? – a Cruz SCOTUS appointment.

That’s a tempting offer indeed, but there’s a problem with it. As Soandso wrote on Tuesday:

As for “Justice Cruz.” This is at first glance a tempting offer. If fact, 9 months ago my dream was a Perry presidency, with a Cruz appointment to the Supreme Court. Obviously he would be the ideal constitutional originalist justice that we so terribly need. The real question is, who in their right mind thinks Trump would ever nominate “L—‘” Ted? Aside from the fact that such a campaign promise from him would be illegal and non-binding, there is the fact that any such non-existent promise (or any other Trump promise) wouldn’t be worth the Trump University letterhead stationary it was written on.

Trump did mention his sister, Judge Maryanne Trump Barry, albeit jokingly. He mentioned that she’d make a “phenomenal” justice, but wouldn’t go that route as it would be a conflict of interest. He may say he won’t do it as a conflict of interest, but the thought that she’d make a great judge is still kind of telling. Cruz characterized her as a pro-choice radical, and while the pro-choice angle may be a bit extreme, she is something of a centrist.

Thing is, if #NeverTrump is going to be swayed, it’s not with that argument. With Trump and his leftist tendencies praising his sister with leftist tendencies, then what kind of Supreme Court justice can we look forward to?

On top of that, a Trump win will likely mean a swing of the House and Senate to the left. This is typical for most any presidency, but if Obama’s radicalized administration forced a surge of red to cover the country during the midterm elections, then what will a Trump presidency do? If the country looks like a Smurf by the time elections role around, we’ll never see a right-wing judge approved for appointment anyway.

But the lie is pervasive. It sounds scary because it is scary, and so we’re hit over the head with it repeatedly. We’re told we’re handing the court to the left. The truth is, we who walked away from the party did no such thing. It was the Trump supporters who have done this by electing a guy that a good deal of those on the right said they didn’t want. A guy with a disapproval rating so high that even Hillary Clinton, the most unlikable candidate we’ve seen in decades, sits below.

Never means never, and lying and bullying won’t bring us any closer to Trump. The Trump camp has claimed they don’t need us, while simultaneously trying to tempt us over, and all it has done is strengthen our resolve.
