Hall Pass: Speaker Ryan Isn’t Asking Anyone to Betray Their Conscience

(Before It's News)

I really feel for House Speaker Paul Ryan. The weeping lush, John Boehner, by his weak and ineffectual leadership left an angry base to be appeased, and the eventual nomination of what amounts to a big, orange, middle finger to the entire nation. Now it’s Speaker Ryan’s job to try and clean up the mess.

From the Wall Street Journal:

Mr. Ryan, in an interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that aired Sunday, said it is his duty to try to unify the GOP by backing businessman Donald Trump. But he indicated he wouldn’t try to force others to back him.

“The last thing I would do is tell anybody to do something that’s contrary to their conscience,” Mr. Ryan said. “This is a very strange situation. This is a very unique nominee.”

“Unique,” is one word. I was thinking more along the lines of “disastrous,” “corrupt,” “inept,” and “unelectable.”

Honestly, I hope somebody with better connections than what I have at my disposal will get this in front of Speaker Ryan. I want him to know I’m genuinely sorry for what he must be wrestling with. I do not envy his position.

There is no way to take this lukewarm vat of horse urine and pass it off as lemonade.

As for those Branch Trumpidians that seem to be consuming it with no trouble, I just think they like drinking horse urine. They’re not that concerned with any ill effects afterwards.

It’s that middle finger thing. Not a sound plan for fixing a nation on the brink.

As for Trump, he is quick to dismiss any who aren’t willing to pledge unwavering fealty to his campaign, and feels he doesn’t need the backing of the GOP brass.

“I obviously won the primaries without them,” said Mr. Trump, who didn’t directly respond to Mr. Ryan’s comments. “I do believe we can win either way, but it would be nice if we stuck together.”

At least two groups have formed to try to stop Mr. Trump from becoming the Republican Party’s nominee, one composed of Washington operatives and another coalition of about 15 convention delegates from Colorado. The Wall Street Journal recently reported that these efforts remain small and have no funding behind them.

Whether the efforts to stop Trump at the convention in July stand a chance at success are debatable. It seems that with every passing day, Trump unleashes a fresh string of gaffes for Speaker Ryan and others to try and spin. At some point, you have to wonder if a mass revolt at the top is possible.

“The last thing I want to see happen is another Democrat in the White House,” Mr. Ryan said on NBC. Later in the interview he added, “One thing I know for certain is Hillary Clinton is going to continue to lead the country in the wrong direction.”

She absolutely will. She is as corrupt and unworthy of the office of the presidency as activists and talking heads have been pointing out for years. She belongs in prison for her crimes against this nation.

That being said, her donor, Trump, is on her same level of inadequacy and corruption. He may even be unstable, mentally.

Whatever happens, there needs to be some serious soul-searching within the party about not just how to spare the GOP, but what will be best for the well-being of the nation, as a whole.
