Kamala Harris Advances to Fall Vote for California Senate Seat | 08 June 2016 | Kamala Harris, the Democratic attorney general of California, captured enough votes in an open primary on Tuesday to advance to the November election for a United States Senate seat, The Associated Press projected Tuesday. The campaign to replace Barbara Boxer, a Democrat who was first elected in 1992, is the first for an open Senate seat here in more than a generation. So far, Ms. Harris has largely shied away from directly engaging her chief rival, Loretta Sanchez, who is also a Democrat.
