VEEPSTAKES: Condi Responds to Rumors of Possible Trump Nod
To counterbalance the childishness, flippancy, incoherence, and lack of experience that presumptive nominee Trump shows, his Veep pick will have to be outstanding.
The ever-impressive Condoleezza Rice can now be crossed off the list.
Condi served as National Security Advisor (the first woman to do so), and then Secretary of State in the George W. Bush administration. Among the esteemed positions she holds, she is currently Professor of Political Science at Stanford University.
Politico reports:
Condoleezza Rice has no interest in serving as Trump’s vice president, Rice’s chief of staff Georgia Godfrey confirmed to POLITICO on Friday.
“Dr. Rice has repeatedly said in past cycles as well as this one, she’s not interested in being vice president,” Godfrey said in a statement. “She’s happy at Stanford and plans to stay.”
Godfrey also said Rice will not be attending the Republican National Convention next month.
Apart from expressing no interest in being Trump’s VP, she has indicated that she will stay away from July’s GOP convention.
However, Condi spoke at the 2012 convention, where she offered words of praise for nominee Mitt Romney, and his running mate Paul Ryan. She cannot do the same this cycle as buffoonish Trump takes the stage.
It would be difficult to see such an informed, experienced, and politically knowledgeable person as Rice align herself with Donald Trump. Her lack of interest in both the VP position and public support at the convention comes as no surprise. Indeed, it constitutes another impressive credential for her during a time when her Republican cohorts are showing a lack of moral strength in supporting His Orangeness.
