Burning’ For You

Motivational speakers can fire you up. That’s their job. Here’s what happened yesterday when several people at a Tony Robbins motivational event walked on hot coals:

Attendees of the “Unleash the Power Within” event, held at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in downtown Dallas, reported burns to their feet and legs just after 11 p.m. on Thursday, Dallas Fire and Rescue spokesman Jason Evans said.

“A lot of the attendees were asked to walk across hot coals, and as a result, a lot of the people sustained burn injuries,” Evans said.

Estimates are between 30-40 people were injured. (BTW, the trick is to walk fast and don’t slow down for anything)

A monument(al) day

There’s a lot of things President Obama is known for not doing. Like not attending the funerals of Margaret Thatcher and numerous other worldwide dignitaries, but today he is doing something. Today he is designating a gay national monument. It’s the Stonewall Inn in New York city.  To find out why this space is important to the LGBT community, here’s the Politico story.  And if you happen to be in Times Square tomorrow you will be given more information.

The White House is also briefly taking over the billboards of Times Square on Saturday to show a video about Stonewall and LGBT movement, along with the National Park Foundation and the Outdoor Advertising Association.

Awesome but weird

If you haven’t heard of the straddling bus planned for China, here’s you chance to take a peek .   This video at Real Clear Life shows everything it’s capable of.  China has got a horrific smog problem in some cities and this mode of transportation is designed to help curb it. The number of people and the method for navigating in and around traffic makes it unique. Mental Floss says the buses can:

“…transport up to 1400 individuals and travel up to 40 mph. The buses roll above highways on track lines 7 feet above street level and positioned between lanes of traffic, thus allowing passengers to hop on and off at elevated bus stops with ease.”

Personally, I would be a little uncomfortable with 1400 people on the same bus as me. But, if it ends up working well for them, great.  Also, since cars can drive under it while it is also moving, wouldn’t that be akin to driving in a moving tunnel. Weird.

 The Rules Committee

While many here are in the #NeverTrump mode, there still is the matter of how individually that translates into votes. For the Libertarian, for Hillary, for nobody at the top of the ticket…or for someone else who may be named at the convention. And here’s why it gets interesting today.  Allahpundit has up an article detailing the latest on the rules committee and how it appeared at first glance 57 of 112 Rules Committee members would have to agree to a “conscience clause” then somehow it gets whittled down to 57 of 72. But by the end we’re given an update on new numbers via a “minority report”. It’s complicated. Suffice to say, if the convention is the best bet for those of us in the #NeverTrump camp read up on this article to find out the latest.

A quick ( but hard) hit

This is not unexpected. If the vote in Britain yesterday was to leave the EU, markets would tumble. So far they’ve tumbled off a cliff. It’s 1:30 central and the markets have been in the negative 500 point arena much of the day.

Today is Take your Dog to Work Day.  If you saw more dogs at work than usual, this was probably why. It was also suppose to be World UFO day but there were disagreements so that day has officially been turned over to July 2nd. Dust off your X-Files vids for that big event coming in a little over a week.

That’s it for today’s cooler so now’s the time to throw your hands in the air and scream Woo-Hoo as loud as you can. It gets you motivated and there’s no burning feet. If there are, you screamed it wrong. OPEN THREAD time. Leave news and whatnot down at the bottom.
