Chilcot Inquiry: Iraq war ‘unnecessary,’ military action ‘not last resort’ – YouTube
The head of Britain’s Iraq War inquiry says the UK under former Prime Minister Tony Blair joined the invasion without seeking all peaceful resolutions.
Sir John Chilcot says military action at that time was not the last resort. He noted that the legal basis for war was far from satisfactory and the decision was made on the basis of flawed intelligence. The head of the official inquiry stressed that the threat of Iraq’s WMDs was presented with unjustified certainty. He said Britain failed to achieve its objectives and post-Saddam plans were wholly inadequate. Chilcot also noted that the consequences of the invasion were underestimated.
