NEW POLL: Trump and Clinton in DEAD HEAT Ahead of Conventions

(Before It's News)

The new CBS/NYT poll came out this week, and it has Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton in a dead heat. This is great news for Donald Trump, who has lagged behind Hillary in nearly every national poll for months. Dozens and dozens of polls show him trailing Hillary, sometimes in double digits, on back through the polling. But now we see him tied, and in a poll not conducted by Rasmussen.

Last month’s numbers in the same poll had Trump behind by six.

Considering that candidates typically come out of a convention with a bump in the polls, this could be a good sign for what has so far been a losing campaign. Here’s the numbers:

CBS adds:

Most registered voters say they have made up their minds about who to support: 90 percent of Trump voters and 88 percent of Clinton voters say their choice is set. About one in 10 of each’s candidates’ supporter say their minds might change before the election.

When you add in Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson, they stay tied.

What’s remarkable is how well Johnson is polling and how high his numbers are. Brandon Morse breaks it down here. I highly recommend reading it, especially if you’re a #NeverTrump and #NeverHillary (raises hand.)

Also worthy of note is how badly the email controversy has worked out for Hillary, despite a constant barrage of butt-covering from the mainstream press.

Sixty-seven percent of voters now say Clinton is not honest and trustworthy, up from 62 percent last month and the highest percentage this election cycle. Only 28 percent view her as honest. Clinton’s ratings on honesty were more positive soon after she announced her presidential bid in April of last year. Also, fewer now say she is prepared for the job of president than did so last month – although half still say she is.

Although Clinton receives lower marks on these attributes compared to last month, views of Trump have not improved on these measures and remain mostly negative. Sixty-two percent of voters don’t think he’s honest (compared to Clinton’s 67 percent), and two-thirds continue to say Trump is not prepared for the job of president, compared to 48 percent who say that about Clinton.

On the email matter specifically, most voters think Clinton did something wrong when she set up a personal email address and server for work while she was Secretary of State, including 46 percent who think what she did was illegal, up slightly from 41 percent last month.

Bottom line, they are tied going into the convention, they both have similar and incredibly high negatives, most of their voters are locked in on voting for them, and the world is a constant drumbeat of sorrow and misery.

Happy Saturday!
