PM Netanyahu: Dear Arab citizens of Israel–take part in our society in droves

Dear Arab citizens of Israel, Muwatinuna al arab al aezaa,

Before my election, I said Arabs voters were going to the polls in droves.

I was referring to a specific political party but many people were understandably offended. I apologized for how my comment was misunderstood.

But today I want to go further.

Today I am asking Arab citizens in Israel to take part in our society—in droves. Work in droves, study in droves, thrive in droves.

Israel is strong because of our diversity and pluralism—not in spite of it.

Over 20% of Israel’s citizens are Arabs. And you have achieved incredible heights: Supreme Court justices, members of parliament, renowned authors, entrepreneurs, high tech business-owners, doctors, pharmacists.

I am proud of the role Arabs play in Israel’s success.

I want you to play an even greater role in it.

Now, respecting minorities isn’t just the right thing to do—it’s critical to our progress.

But talking about equality of opportunity – that’s not enough.

Action is what matters.

My government recently passed a resolution to invest massive resources in Arab communities.

Arab communities are receiving unprecedented support for public infrastructure, for transportation, for employment, for welfare, for so many other things.

And the reason for this is simple. Because your future is our future.

Yet significant gaps remain.

I will never forget the conversation I had in a Knesset committee with a young Muslim woman. Her husband and sons were gunned down in an Arab town. She was shaking. She begged me, she said, “Prime Minister, please increase law and order in the community where I live.”

And this is exactly what we’re doing.

Yesterday, the government approved legislation that would significantly strengthen public safety for Arab towns and villages. They’re yearning to be free from a life of crime and violence.

My vision is that young Arab boys and girls grow up knowing they can achieve anything in Israel as valued and equal citizens in our democracy.

Today I ask you all to join me in this effort.

Now, each of us has a role to play.

Jews and Arabs should reach out to each other, get to know each other’s families.

Listen to each other.

Jews and Arabs should treat one another with the same dignity and respect you’d want for your own family.

Our land is too small, it’s too precious to fill it with discord and hate.

Let us work together, Arabs and Jews alike, to reach ever higher in the noble pursuit of equality and dignity for all.

This is my vision and I’m sure it’s yours too.

Israel police arrest 56 far-right soccer hooligans in major operation

Israel Police arrested 56 members of the anti-Muslim, far-right “La Familia”, Beitar Jerusalem soccer team fan club, in an unprecedented operation on Tuesday. An undercover agent who had infiltrated the group over the past 6 months led to the breakthrough.

More arrests are expected in the coming days.

Deputy Police Commissioner Benny Abiliah said that the group has been labeled a criminal organization. The members of the soccer fan club were arrested in an operation which took place all over Israel – from the upper Galilee to the Negev desert.

Nine of those arrested were IDF soldiers who were arrested by the military police, while two of those arrested were minors.

In addition to the arrests, 20 military grade stun grenades, a kilo of rocket propellant, two tear gas canisters, 29 flares of different sizes, and 19 improvised grenades (some of which emit yellow smoke) amongst other weapons.

Beitar Jerusalem has long tried to contain the radical fan group whose behavior has had the team docked points and forced it to play before empty stadiums. The group is routinely abusive toward opposing players, taunting them with racist and anti-Muslim chants. Beitar has asked police to help rein in the group, which is also suspected of attacking team facilities. Several of the fans arrested are also suspect of a murder attempt, after they attacked a fan of a rival team (Hapoel Tel Aviv) with an axe, in last October.

A Civil War Looming in Israel?

http://www.globalresearch.ca/a-civil-war-looming-in-israel/5538071

………………………Amid the seemingly perpetual turbulence and chaos of the Middle East and North Africa comes the warning of a Jewish Civil War:

“We are on the verge of an uprising of hatred, racism, darkness and upcoming killings and assassination based on the overwhelming internal hatred here. We hear hatred at every turn, whether it is directed toward women by military rabbis, by Ashkenazi Jews against Sephardi Jews and Mizrahi Jews against Ashkenazis. This way the seeds of the uprising of hatred are planted, which will lead to a civil war. This hatred is being carried out by the full support and cover of those in charge.” – Isaac Herzog, leader of the opposition Zionist Union coalition in the Israeli Knesset………………………..

…………………Herzog has pointedly blamed the present leadership of Likud, headed by Netanyahu, for allowing the political discourse to slide into a hate filled atmosphere. “This way,” he said, “the seeds of the uprising of hatred are planted, which will lead to a civil war.”

And he is not the only high-ranking Israeli political figure to express profound disquiet at the direction in which Israel is heading. Moshe Yaalon, a former IDF chief of staff resigned as minister for defence after hearing that his position would be offered to Avigdor Lieberman, a hardline figure from the political Right. Yaalon claimed that he was “fearful for Israel’s future”. A few weeks earlier, the deputy chief of the Israeli military, Major General Yair Golan compared contemporary Israel to Nazi Germany of the 1930s.

The rise of Likud, some critics have argued, signified the coming to power of the terror gangs of the Mandate era. And with this they argue has come a more uncompromising position regarding the possibility of a two-state settlement with the Palestinian people. With the expansion of settlements on the West Bank having reached a stage where they are essentially irreversible owing to the certainty of a Jewish Civil War in the event of an attempt to have settlers evicted, the only course left to effect a lasting solution to the ‘Palestinian problem’ is a purge of the Arab population under the cover a serious military conflict with an external enemy. Herzog’s strongly worded remarks no doubt reflect what many consider to be an entrenched pattern in Netanyahu’s often polarizing and incendiary style. His comments during the last elections regarding the Israeli political Left busing Arab voters “to the polling stations in droves” typified this as did his statements regarding illegal immigrants from Black Africa who he described as “infiltrators” and who he claimed were threatening the “identity of the Jewish state.”………………
