Hillary-Trump

It’s a good thing Donald Trump says he loves his “poorly educated” voters. A new nation wide Bloomberg Politics/Purple Slice poll of college educated likely voters finds that support for Hillary Clinton grows with the level of “educational attainment.” Hillary leads The Donald:

  • Among voters with just a college degree and no postgraduate degree — 48 percent to 37 percent;
  • Among all college-educated likely voters, including those with postgraduate degrees — 54 percent to 32 percent;
  • Among those with graduate degrees  — 61 percent to 27 percent.

It doesn’t get any better for Trump among college-educated likely voters when Libertarian Party nominee Gary Johnson and the presumptive Green Party nominee Jill Stein are added to the mix:

  • Clinton – 45%
  • Trump – 27%
  • Johnson – 10%
  • Stein – 3%

According to Bloomberg political reporter John McCormick, The poll’s findings suggest Trump is struggling to rebuild Romney’s losing 2012 coalition. Hillary’s 11 percent margin among all college-educated likely voters is much greater than the President Obama’s 2-point margin with this group 1n 2012, which represented 47 percent of the electorate.

The respondents don’t like either candidate.  Hillary is viewed favorably by 45 percent and unfavorably by 53 percent. Trump is liked even less with just 26 percent holding a favorable view and 73 percent holding an unfavorable one.

The poll also asked respondents about Hillary and The Donald’s vulnerabilities or concerns opponents have expressed about them. Of the seven items tested by the poll, Hillary’s  use of a private e-mail server for official materials when she was secretary of state is her biggest vulnerability — 47 percent, said they were bothered a lot by FBI Director Comey’s finding  that Hillary and her colleagues were “extremely careless in their handling of very sensitive, highly classified information.” Two other issues that the poll found most concerned respondents about Hillary were her lying about the cause of the Benghazi attacks and failure to do more to protect embassy workers — 44 percent, and her cozy connections to Wall Street — 43 percent.

Trump’s, most troubling vulnerability of  the eight tested by the poll was his verbal disparagement of women — 69% were bothered a lot by that. Other issues that most concerned respondents about The Donald were his proposed tax cuts for those who make more than $1 million a year — 58 percent, and  Trump  University — 56 percent. That is the same percentage that were concerned about Trump’s statement that Mexican immigrants are “bringing drugs, they’re bringing crime, they’re rapists.

The poll was conducted July 7-10 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.8 percent.
