Independence Day 1.0
On this day in 1776, John Adams and Benjamin Franklin submitted for debate their revised copy of Thomas Jefferson’s penned Declaration of Independence to representatives from the 13 colonies of the Continental Congress.
Why should we celebrate Independence Day on the 2nd of July? Because the laborious work of persuasion to a certainty of the argument for natural law occurred on this day. Natural law meaning that “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness” is innate by virtue of our creation and no man, institution or government has dominion over natural law.
The 4th of July passed relatively unceremoniously with a late morning unanimous consent to the revisions of the document, but the big Hoo-Haa day happened two days before, when a bunch of sweaty men locked in a room together rightly concluded we deserved better than what the British were offering.
Trump’s DisHonorable Mentions in Democrat’s Party Platform
The DNC published a draft copy of their party’s platform last night. The Blaze relayed that each of the 35 pages of the document mentions Donald Trump.
Here are a few of the highlights:
“Donald Trump may talk tough, but he has consistently outsourced his own products. American workers deserve better.”
“We condemn Donald Trump’s demonization of prisoners of war, women, Muslims, Mexicans, and people with disabilities; his playing coy with white supremacists; and the climate of bigotry he is creating. We also condemn the recent uptick in other forms of hate speech, like anti-Semitism and Islamophobia.”
“Donald Trump ran a fake university—the now bankrupt Trump ‘University’—that scammed many out of their hard-earned savings and led to no degree and no obvious benefit to their education or economic prosperity.”
And, so it goes.
The Dem’s Platform reads more like a hit piece than a serious here’s-how-Democrats-can-make-your-life-better manifesto. A strong shake of my magic 8 ball reads “Trump cries foul.” Not to be outdone and Trump’s penchant for one upmanship, his response will be something like, “They’ll be so many ‘Crooked Hillary’ mentions in my party platform. It’ll be like nothing you’ve ever seen before!” “Believe me!”
What is a patriotic Millennial?
Apparently some Millennials are reluctant Americans, says a new study released yesterday.
“Roughly 3 out of 10 American millennials are not particularly proud of being a U.S. citizen.”
Traditional patriotism?
“Richards/Lerma and The Stan Richards School of Advertising and Public Relations at The University of Texas at Austin analyzed multiple variables of the study to assess what different respondents understood as patriotism and found that millennials are less attached to traditional expressions of American pride, such as believing in God first and country second, singing the national anthem, saying(sic) in the Pledge of Allegiance, or supporting U.S. troops.”
Of the 1,000 Millennial respondents, most expressed ambiguous feelings towards love of country.
“On the other side, they score highly on more active patriotic attributes like the aforementioned willingness to build a better America, freedom, taking an active role in politics, and the right to pursue happiness, among others.”
The study further concludes that Millennials are not less patriotic,
“They are just more demanding of the nation…”
Or JFK’s admonition: “Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.”
