Guess Who Did Not Show up to Watch Donald Trump Endorse Paul Ryan
Yesterday, Donald Trump attempted to end the gratuitous and self-defeating war he has conducted against Speaker of the House Paul Ryan and Arizona Senator John McCain by endorsing them at a rally in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
This, of course, is after Trump encouraged the bizarro candidacy of a nutball named Paul Nehlen and several Trump staffers traipsed off to Wisconsin to work for Nehlen.
This was far from a rapprochement.
Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson, who is in a tough reelection contest, did not show up at the rally. Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker did not show up for the rally. House Speaker Paul Ryan did not show up to accept the endorsement. The local Green Bay paper reported:
After pointedly declining to do so earlier this week and being drubbed by Wisconsin Republicans, Trump relented and backed Ryan in his primary Tuesday with businessman Paul Nehlen. Such an endorsement may have come too late to fully undo the damage for Trump in Wisconsin, where top Republicans steered clear of Friday’s event.
Assembly Speaker Robin Vos (R-Rochester) wrote in a column Friday morning on the website Right Wisconsin that he was “heartbroken” to see Trump initially praising Nehlen and withholding support from Ryan.
“As we watch the news today about the visit of the GOP presidential nominee to Wisconsin, I have to ask myself, ‘Am I proud of the GOP nominee lately?’ The answer is so obvious it hurts. No. Actually, it’s even worse. I’m embarrassed that he’s leading our ticket. Since the convention, his lack of judgment has got to concern even the most ardent Trump supporters,” Vos wrote.

Ryan himself said he hasn’t spoken to Trump since the GOP convention, has no plans to, and has no idea whether their differences are going to persevere through the campaign.
“I am just going to rise above this stuff,” Ryan told Jay Weber of WISN as part of a lengthy slate of local radio interviews Ryan was doing Thursday and Friday in advance of next Tuesday’s primary elections.
Who did show up was the slavishly Renfield-esque Branch Trumpidian who is challenging Ryan:
Paul Nehlen, House Speaker Paul Ryan’s Republican primary challenger, was ejected by Wisconsin GOP staffers from a Donald Trump rally in Green Bay, Wisconsin Friday night.
Nehlen was able to enter the premises of the rally before being urged to leave by individuals affiliated with the state party organization, according to his campaign. A Nehlen spokesman told The Daily Caller the Trump campaign had reached out and invited the congressional candidate to attend the rally earlier Friday.
Trump went on to endorse Speaker Ryan at the rally, as well as Arizona Sen. John McCain and New Hampshire Sen. Kelly Ayotte in their respective primaries. The move is seen as a reversal from Trump’s comments Tuesday in which he praised Nehlen and refused to endorse Ryan in the Wisconsin congressional primary.
While Nehlen was not allowed to remain at the event, Ryan had made it known he would not be attending the Green Bay rally earlier in the week. Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and Sen. Ron Johnson — who’s currently in a bitter general election — also did not attend the event with Trump.
As we’ve said time and again, no one is able to enter Donald Trump’s orbit and retain a shred of dignity or self-respect. Even falling to your knees to worship the Cheeto Jesus does spare you insult, embarrassment and humiliation at his hands. Ryan, Johnson and Walker seem to know this and were very wise to stay away from Trump and his loony tune circus act.
