(Before It's News)

Hillary-Trump

At the RedState gathering this weekend, I was having a conversation with a millennial voter and conservative who said she feared Donald Trump is so toxic, the GOP will suffer long term ramifications. So many younger voters will be introduced to politics for the first time this election season and they will associate the GOP with Donald Trump. The lines will be blurred and those voters will be with the Democrats for a long time coming.

In a new USA Today/Rock The Vote poll, her fears are likely being realized. Trump is not only losing to Hillary Clinton among these younger voters, he is doing worse than any other GOP candidate in modern history:

The survey shows Clinton trouncing Trump 56%-20% among those under 35, though she has failed so far to generate the levels of enthusiasm Sanders did — and the high turn-out that can signal — among Millennials.

“I get worried about the bigoted element of our country, and that they will stick with Trump regardless of his stupidity,” says Elizabeth Krueger, 31, an actress in New York City who was among those surveyed. She supports Clinton. “She is not going to be a perfect president, but who would be?”

Then there is this:

Trump’s weakness among younger voters is unprecedented, lower even than the 32% of the vote that the Gallup Organization calculates Richard Nixon received among 18-to-29-year-old voters in 1972, an era of youthful protests against the Vietnam War.

Let that marinate for a few moments. Richard Nixon did better among younger voters than Donald Trump. Trump is foolish enough to believe he could carry the “strategy” he used to win the GOP primaries into the general election. That’s obviously not happening.

Ironically, Trump is losing this badly among millennials despite having two traits we’ve been told the GOP needs in order to appeal to them: a more liberal view on social issues such as gay marriage and abortion as well as a better grasp of social media. It goes to show younger voters so easily be pigeon-holed.

Trump may do well on Facebook and Twitter, but it’s not helping him at all with younger voters. Sean Hannity is likely not paying attention.
