The US army has pulled nearly all of its personnel out of Saudi Arabia where they were assisting the kingdom with its deadly war on Yemen. A US Navy spokesman in Bahrain says only a few American military advisors will remain in Saudi Arabia to help the country with its air campaign. However, a pentagon spokesman says the withdrawal doesn’t diminish US commitment to supporting Saudi operations in Yemen. The officials have also rejected any link between the pull-outs and the growing international concerns over mounting civilian casualties in Yemen. They have described a lull in airstrikes as the reason behind the withdrawals stressing that the U-S might decide to deploy military personnel as Saudi air raids intensify. Riyadh is under fire for stepping up its deadly strikes on Yemeni public places and residential areas.

President of Iran’s Medical Sciences Academy Dr. Seyed Alireza Marandi in a letter to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon lambasted the world body for its inaction on Riyadh’s savage crimes against the innocent Yemeni people and keeping mum on the Saudi-led coalition’s bombing of a hospital in Yemen. “I write again with reference to my previous correspondence with you dated 18 May 2015, and 14 June 2016 concerning the failure of the United Nations to prevent the criminal actions of the Saudi regime in their indiscriminate killing of the oppressed people of Yemen,” Dr. Marandi said in a letter to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. “Unfortunately, last week we witnessed the bombing of a hospital by the Saudi regime which was again followed by the silence of international human rights organizations. A war crime was committed when this hospital treating sick and injured civilians was struck, killing children, women, men and medical staff, including Doctors Without Borders personnel,” he added.

“How long will the United Nations close its eyes to these continuing atrocities because of the Saudi regime’s financial clout within the organization you helm? History will not judge well a United Nations which professes to be the upholder of higher humanitarian standards in the world and yet allows its silence to be purchased. A silence which effectively denies civilians protection from war crimes and recourse to the very structures of justice they are entitled to under UN conventions,” Dr. Marandi underlined. The Saudi-led coalition warplanes intensified their airstrikes on residential areas across Yemen earlier this week, targeting a hospital in Hajjah province just two days after killing and wounding a number of children at a school in Sa’ada province. Yemeni Missile Destroys Military Hardware, Kills Several Saudi Troops in Najran Province

A Yemeni ballistic missile hit the Saudi military camp in the Southern part of the kingdom, inflicting heavy losses on the Saudi-led forces in Najran province. Saudi Arabia’s Al-e Shahid military camp in Raqaba al-Sadis region in Najran province sustained heavy losses in Yemen’s missile strikes. Meantime, an Abrams tank of the Saudi army was destroyed in al-Sharafa region in the Southern part of Najran.

In Ta’iz province, tens of pro-Saudi forces were killed in fierce clashes with the Yemeni army and popular forces in the Western part of the city of Ta’iz. The Yemeni army and popular forces also took control of Hija al-Abd road located between Ta’iz and Aden provinces, killing a large number of pro-Saudi forces.

In a relevant development earlier this week, Yemen’s Ansarullah and allied army forces killed 32 Saudi-backed militants loyal to Yemen’s former regime in fierce clashes across the war-hit country. The fatalities were caused during fighting in the provinces of Ma’rib, Jawf and Bayda, Al Masirah reported. Another 91 militants were injured in clashed in the three provinces, however there was no information about potential casualties among the Yemeni forces. Meanwhile, Yemeni forces managed to take control of a number of hills in Rabi’a area in Ma’rib, killing 19 militants in the process. Also on Sunday, the Yemeni forces fired a ballistic Zelzal-3 missile at a Saudi military camp in Najran, inside Saudi Arabia, in retaliation for its military aggression. Saudi Arabia claimed that the missile was intercepted before impact. The Yemeni forces also killed two soldiers in the Saudi region of Asir while another soldier was killed in the Faridah military camp in the Southwestern province of Jizan, also in Saudi Arabia.
