Analyst: No Guarantee on Syrian Militants Abiding Russia-US Ceasefire Deal

A political analyst said on Sunday that there is no guarantee that the long-awaited deal Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State John Kerry have inked to put an end to violence in Syria, would be abided by militant groups backed by the US and some other foreign countries.

Political analyst and journalist, Vanessa Beeley said that militants backed by the United States, the European Union, NATO and some Arab states are the “main stumbling blocks” when it comes to implementing the new agreement, Sputnik reported.

The secession of hostilities is expected to enter into force on September 12.

“Historically, again, the reason that the ceasefires have failed is because the terrorists have not respected” them, the journalist, who recently visited Syria. Beeley cited two villages in Idlib, Kafarya and Foua, besieged since March 2015 as an example.

“There has never been a respect of the ceasefire there,” she said.

“The shelling of civilian houses has continued through all of the ceasefires and largely been ignored by Western media. And absolutely no humanitarian aid has been allowed into Kafarya and Foua since March 2015 except for a couple of very poorly equipped UN convoys that made it through.”

Both Lavrov and Kerry emphasized that the new deal will only work if all stakeholders involved in the Syrian conflict will fulfil their part of the agreement. America’s top diplomat said that the anto-Syrian government groups “have indicated they’re prepared” to meet the “standards that we have established.”

This is something that Beeley was skeptical about. “What guarantees are the United States, the Persian Gulf states and Turkey giving that the terrorists that they control, equip, fund and arm are not going to break the ceasefire?” she asked.

The journalist also noted that the Syrian government has to be allowed “to respond” if terrorists do not respect the ceasefire.

“So my question is: Are the terrorists going to be respecting the ceasefire? And if they are not, the Syrian government and the Syrian national army have to have the right to respond. And this has been the difficulty of all the ceasefires,” she noted.

Beeley also pointed to a recurring pattern when a US-sponsored secession of hostilities was introduced at a time when the Syrian Army secured major victories against terrorists trying to overthrow President Bashar al-Assad. “Yet again we have seen huge advances made by the Syrian Army. If they retake areas in Southern and Southeastern Aleppo, it would then mean that the road to Damascus from Southern Aleppo will be reopened for the first time in years because it is under terrorist control,” she detailed, adding that these positive developments could be “derailed” by the ceasefire.Front-Line Report | September 9th 2016 | Ramouseh supply road

Syria: Wounded Nusra Terrorists Taken to Israeli Hospitals

Several Israeli ambulances entered Syria’s Southern province of Quneitra and transferred those terrorists injured in clashes with Syrian Army troops to their hospitals in the occupied part of the Golan Heights, media sources said.

“First, Israeli warplanes bombed Syrian government’s positions near Quneitra to back the terrorists of Fatah al-Sham (the newly-formed al-Qaeda-linked terrorists group previously known as the al-Nusra Front) who had attacked the Syrian army positions to prevail over the government’s position,” the Arabic service of RT reported.

“After Fatah al-Sham’s attacks were repelled by the Syrian soldiers, seven Israeli ambulances entered the battlefield and transferred a number of wounded terrorists to Israeli hospitals in the occupied Golan Heights,” RT added.

On Saturday, the Israeli air force violated the Syrian airspace again and launched airstrikes on an army base in Quneitra province hours after Fatah al-Sham Front started a massive raid in the same province in Southwestern Syria.

The Israeli army also targeted a Syrian military unit in the Golan Heights last week after it alleged that the army had fired several mortal rounds at targets in Israel.

Fatah al-Sham kicked off a new wave of heavy clashes with the Syrian army in Quneitra province.

Scores of terrorists were killed and wounded in tough battle with the army and popular forces on Saturday.

The Syrian army also continued its advances in other key provinces across Syria, inflicting heavy losses and casualties on the terrorist groups.

Lattakia

Battlefield sources announced on Saturday that the Syrian army and the popular forces have managed to take control of nearly two dozen strategic villages and hilltops in Lattakia province.

“The Syrian army launched heavy attacks on the terrorists’ military positions in Jabal al-Akrad (Kurds Mountain) and al-Turkman regions and seized back over 20 villages and hilltops,” a military source said on Saturday.

He reiterated that the army units are now in full control of Shahbak Nakhashba, Tal al-Molk, Tal Rasha, Ein al-Quntera, Arz al-Wati, Zahr Abu Asad and Mazala.

Earlier on Saturday, the Syrian army troops alongside popular forces continued to push back militants in Northeastern Lattakia and won back the province’s highway to the bordering province of Idlib after hours of battles.

Syrian government forces, who seized back several villages and hilltops bordering the Idlib province in Northeastern territories of Lattakia, took full control over the Idlib-Lattakia highway after several years since the war on terrorism started.

Reports said earlier on Saturday that the army soldiers alongside the National Defense Forces continued to hit terrorists’ strongholds in the mountainous regions of Lattakia and captured several key hills and villages.

“The Syrian government forces’ anti-terrorism operation in Northern Lattakia inflicted major losses on the militants and forced them to pull their forces back form the villages of Ein al-Qantara and the hills of Rasha, al-Oweizarat, Zohra, Abu Saeed and Ruweisat al-Kataf,” the sources said.

“The terrorist groups retreated from the battlefield after they suffered a heavy death toll and their military hardware sustained major damage,” they added.

Aleppo

Earlier on Saturday, the Syrian army and the resistance forces preempted terrorists’ imminent operations to take control of a logistic route in Northern Aleppo, and forced them to withdraw from their military positions on a road linking Castillo to al-Fallah Farms.

A battlefield source told the Arabic-language al-Watan newspaper that the Syrian army in a preemptive military operation on Friday managed to push back the terrorists of Aleppo Operations Room near Castello and al-Mallah Farms in Northern Aleppo.

“The terrorists intended to take control of Aleppo supply route, but they faced the army’s preemptive move and failed to even get close to this path,” the source said.
