GroundWire Community Radio News is Canada's national campus and community news program. The 29-minute radio show carries headlines, reports, features and short documentaries from independent and community radio journalists. Produced biweekly by and for community radio stations collaborating with a team of coordinators, GroundWire is a reliable, high-quality newscast, dedicated to grassroots coverage offering progressive perspectives on issues that engage a national audience. GroundWire's priority is to connect diverse communities from coast-to-coast-to-coast and encourage self-representation by focusing on content that shares in the ethics of human rights activism, equity, labour rights, democratic communication, information exchange and progressive political and social policy. With this volunteer position, GroundWire offers an excellent opportunity to network at a national level with community media journalists and community radio stations across Canada. Community radio journalists have gone on to work in not-for-profit management, public policy, public relations and GroundWire alumni have been published in Canadian forums such as The Dominion Paper, Broken Pencil, Our Times, Briarpatch, as well as Free Speech Radio News and Democracy Now.

*Qualifications*
-Background in community organizing and/or community media
-Audio editing skills an asset
-Excellent time management skills
-Experience working with volunteers
-Experience in online content management and social media
-Strong proofreading
-Proven news judgment
-Familiarity with collaborative work

*Duties*

*Distribution*
-Check audio quality and final mix from producer
-Post to Community Radio Exchange < http://ncra.ca/exchange>, GW Blog,
rabble.ca, and other sites
-Send release announcement to listservs
-Update facebook and twitter accounts

*Meetings and Minutes*
-Coordinate steering meetings
-Posting minutes

*Pitch Sorting Pile*
-Put out calls for story pitches
-Check [email protected] email for pitches
-Choose accepted pitches in consult with the editorial policy and producing
station
-Support with editing, setting up interviews, or other production needs

*Production Calendar*
-Solicit new producers for the coming months
-Update and send the calendar every three months

*Hours*
-Flexible: approx. 10 hours a week (some weekend and evening
shifts)

*Where*
-Combination of at home and at a local station.

*Supervision*
-You will interact with the GroundWire's Steering Committee, through regular reports and meetings. Depending on your location, a steering member may be available for in-person mentoring.
