Riot Police Begin Mass Arrests at Dakota Pipeline Standoff, FaceBook Censors Video
From the looks of things, what started out as a peaceful protest by The Standing Rock Sioux tribe has devolved into a situation beginning to spiral out of control. According to ArmyTimes.com:
The Dakota Access pipeline is a $3.8 billion, 1,172-mile project that would carry nearly a half million barrels of crude oil daily from North Dakota’s oil fields through South Dakota and Iowa to an existing pipeline in Patoka, Illinois, where shippers can access Midwest and Gulf Coast markets, according to the Associated Press.
The Standing Rock Sioux tribe has filed a lawsuit challenging federal permits for the project, alleging that the pipeline, which would be less than a mile upstream of the reservation, could impact drinking water for more than 8,000 tribal members and millions who rely on it downstream, the AP reported.
As you can see below, there have been as many as 20 arrests reported, and tensions are beginning to rise. As per usual, once people’s constitutional rights start getting walked on, Facebook throws its full support behind the agency abusing the power, and has since blocked what was a live feed…

The following video provides some backgorund to what is going on in North Dakota with the this protest. As Dahboo77 explains in the video, among others, included in the people for whom arrests warrants were initiaslly issued incldue Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein.
Morton County Police announced on Facebook on Tuesday that they have issued an arrest warrant for both Stein and Baraka. Both face charges of criminal trespass and mischief after Baraka spray painted “decolonization” on a bulldozer with Stein spray painting, “I approve this message” on another, according to court affidavits posted on Facebook.
The charges are both Class B misdemeanors, which carry a maximum penalty of $1,000 and 30 days in jail.
Stein joined an estimated 150 to 200 people Tuesday in support of the Standing Rock Sioux Nation, which has been fighting to keep the Dakota Access Pipeline from endangering the tribe’s water supply and destroying sacred lands.
The governor of North Dakota has called in the National Guard to assist law enforcement with the Dakota Access Pipeline protest.
The call for the Guard comes in anticipation of a federal judge’s decision Friday that could halt construction on the project. The pipeline is slated to cross under the Missouri River next to the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation.

It didn’t take long after the National Guard was activated in North Dakota for militarized law enforcement to descend upon the site of the Dakota Access Pipeline. Today, mass arrests began as riot gear-clad police attempted to break up Native American opposition to the construction of the pipeline, which has been halted at one location but continues elsewhere.
According to independent news outlet Unicorn Riot, at least 20 protesters, or “water protectors,” have been arrested at gunpoint along with medics and two journalists. Police issued a one-time warning to “water protectors” that any trespassers would be arrested. The warning came after several people locked themselves to construction equipment in acts of civil disobedience on Tuesday.

Unicorn Riot, which has been broadcasting live video of the tense standoff in North Dakota, says Facebook has been censoring their link from livestream.com.
Commenters on their Facebook page were also complaining they could not share the video. Screenshots posted by page followers show Facebook blocked the link.
[UPDATE: A Unicorn Riot collective member confirmed to Anti-Media via email that Facebook was blocking the video link with its “automated censorship system.”
“At a critical moment of our coverage of a Dakota Access Pipeline direct action today, Facebook’s automated censorship system blocked our video URL, shortly before two of our journalists were arrested onsite. As we started to cover today’s direct action, our collective members immediately noticed that the full Livestream event URL (https://livestream.com/unicornriot/events/6340986) was being blocked from Facebook. Posts and comments with the URL both immediately triggered popup security alerts. We tried putting the same URL through Bitly shortening and that official Unicorn Riot page post was deleted by Facebook within a few minutes. Finally we went with sharing our “Live Channel” URL on our own website which had the embed included on it.
We also verified that the “Facebook Debugger” warned that our live video URL violated “community standards”. Both Facebook and law enforcement acted to block our media distribution today, but we will not let them stop our mission to amplify the voices of people who might otherwise go unheard, and broadcast the stories that might otherwise go untold.
Also, as one member of the collective, I should point out it is obviously concerning when a large media conglomerate blocks URLs to competing video platforms.”]
A surveillance plane was also seen patrolling the protest site, reports Unicorn Riot.
Anti-Media has reached out to Morton County Sheriff’s Department for comment and will update this story if they respond.
