(Before It's News)

Lottery terminals in 2,900 retail locations across Arizona suddenly stopped working and winning Scratcher tickets didn’t pay out this week when the state and its lottery vendor launched a new software system, according to KGUN TV.

In Connecticut, Anne Noble is resigning as CEO of the Connecticut Lottery Corp. after a lengthy investigation showed a serious breach in lottery software that allowed lottery agents to manipulate terminals to produce more winning lottery tickets. The investigation showed Noble knew about the security breach for months before shutting down the lottery game in question.  According to WTNH TV News, Noble was in communications with the state’s lottery vendor for ten months before calling for suspension of the game, 5 Card Cash.

The lottery vendor in both Arizona and Connecticut? Scientific Games.

You’ve heard of Scientific Games before. They’re the outfit that was awarded the state lottery contract in Maryland despite being the most expensive bidder by $50 million and being judged the least technically competent firm to handle the lottery systems in large states. That contract, incidentally, was awarded by a state lottery director who is still serving on a “trial run” and has yet to be confirmed by the state Senate.

Recent events in Arizona and Connecticut would seem to validate concerns that Scientific Games is not up to the job to handle the Maryland Lottery.
